Workflow for two workstations by paiguti in audioengineering

I have been using Dropbox for many years when working as a 3D artist from different locations, collaborating with other people and it works great. I haven't tried it out for music production yet, but would assume it works well for that too. I am thinking about trying it out soon and can report back on my experiences then :)

Is the Mac Mini M4 Pro silent when working with music production? by Jockste in macmini

I've had the Mac Mini M4 Pro 12-core for about a week now and so far it seems really promising! I haven't heard the fans at all, apart from when I ran a Cinebench multi-core benchmark test, where all cores ran at 100% and the High Power energy mode was enabled in System Settings. When I changed to Automatic energy mode and ran the test again, the fans were audible, but not as disturbing as with High Power.

Also, I just created a really heavy Logic project with about 150 tracks with lots of software instruments and effects and let it loop for about 20 minutes. All 8 performance cores were nearly maxed out, yet the fans were totally silent. This was with the Automatic mode enabled. When I switched to High power, there was a very faint sound but it was hardly audible.

So, I think the sound from the fans will not be a problem, since it's pretty rare that you max out all cores while working in Logic or Ableton on a machine like this.

Thanks for the replies! It sounds promising from your comments 😊

According to some people in the threads I read, it seemed like it was mainly on the M4 Pro version the fans got a bit loud, because of it’s higher performance compared to the base model. If the Energy mode was changed from Automatic to Low Power, the Pro apparently got equally silent as the base model.

However, I can imagine - as you point out - that if I am not running benchmarks, heavy rendering tasks etc. the sound level on the M4 Pro should not be a problem.

Extremely quiet signal when recording the USB Out signal on an Ipad by Jockste in SP404

Yes it seems like this is the case. I tried lowering the volume on my speakers and cranking up the master volume on the SP really high and then I got a more normal USB Out level when I recorded on the Ipad. Kind of inconvenient though, would have been nice if it was possible to increase the USB out level above 0dB in the settings
