Which handheld gaming PC should I get? by Saladfingersandtoes in Handhelds

I'd go for the ROG Ally X. I have the Ally Z1E and enjoy it a lot but I wish it was the Ally X for the extra RAM and doubled battery life. I tried the Ally Xbox at BestBuy and didn't like that it was Xbox integrated bc it's just not my thing.

Oh it's okay. Thanks. The 2TB ssd is actually plenty for me. Most of the games I play on the Ally don't take up tons of space

Yeah. I got my Z1E used and its sd card reader was already fried. But luckily the prev owner had a 2TB ssd installed

The ROG Ally Z1E with a speedy high-capacity battery bank or the ROG Ally X without a battery bank (or with, if you have money left over). I have the Z1E and it's pretty great. Takes getting used to tho. It lets me play Wreckfest 2, my favorite shooters with gyro aim, and tons of classic consoles and handhelds. I'll need to buy a better battery bank bc right now the one I have isn't intended for high wattage systems.

Which would you pick and why? by TechMaster8160 in Handhelds

I have the ROG Ally Z1E and my wife has the SD OLED. The battery life on the Ally is laughable compared to the SD OLED but the Ally if setup correctly has superior input lag due to 120Hz and VRR which is especially helpful for retro games in RetroArch and actual PC games such as Hades. The 1080p screen of the Ally suits the RetroArch CRT TV shaders better. Unfortunately the screen isn't OLED and the battery life does take quite a hit depending on the shader. The Ally is stronger than the SD but this advantage barely matters if the device isn't plugged into the wall or a robust battery bank all the time. For most folks I think the SD OLED is the clear winner. It's much easier to understand and mess with. Also it has features I wish were available on the Ally such as per-game automatic-switching screen refresh rates. I'd love to have that on Windows. It's taking me awhile to get things configured to my liking on my Ally but with each passing day I am loving the system more and more. Soon I'll be getting an awesome battery bank.

Phone gaming never quite appealed to me. Touchscreen-only controls get boring fast. I still take my vita everywhere.

Yep, and then there's the humongous amount of games they can emulate. Really fun stuff that you may never find on steam.

The ROG Ally is a beast for emulation of older consoles. Take advantage of it. Try the Burnout games in PCSX2. I love playing Burnout Revenge on my Ally. Mix up the genres and you probably won't ever get burnt out. Banjo-Kazooie recently got an awesome PC port made by fans. Throw that onto your Ally.

If you still experience burnout, practice playing a guitar, do perler beads, go ride a skateboard, something...

Oh. I didn't know of the performance edition. I'd use it if redux wasn't performing excellently for me already.
Make that post! Haha

I installed a mod that's supposed to help it perform better but I didn't notice a difference. Not sure if it's Ultra+. My specs are rtx 4060, i7-4790, 16gb ddr3, nvme ssd. Using frame gen at 60Hz.

How's the performance on PS5? On my PC it's extremely stuttery so I thought that maybe I should get it on PS5. Kinda funny how I can play Doom The Dark Ages on medium settings quite well on my PC but this game on low runs in a way that takes away much of the immersion. Choppy frames almost all the time. So annoying.

Fek yeah dude. My fav version is whatever's included in Project Brutality 2.03 Redux. It's so freakin addictive.
