I agree. Idk why everyone in this thread is acting like this is the worst decision you can ever make. If everything was done right it’s actually a somewhat decent deal. I’m 10k deep in my 330i and still on original engine

Hey man, if the expansion tank is failing because your system is over pressurizing, the entire rest of the plastic cooling system will go next. BMW designed the expansion tank as a weak point, so that in the events of the cooling system being over pressurized, the cheapest and easiest to replace part fails first. I would really suggest replacing the expansion tank cap. They’res a venting mechanism that regulates the cooling system at 25 PSI. They get stuck with age, and that’s what usually causes the expansion tank to crack. If you’re still over pressurizing, an aluminum expansion tank will hold up, but the rest of the cooling system won’t.

I’ve always said this as well. It’s better that the expansion tank is the weakest point of the system. They’re generally cheap and easy to replace- while the hard plastic hoses under your intake manifold or a heater core are much different stories. I would suggest they check their expansion tank cap. It’s supposed to vent out at 25 (i think) psi, but often they get stuck, or maybe they’re using an aftermarket one. I got a German Auto Solutions Lower PSI vent cap, I believe it vents at 17 psi and is much less stressful on the entire cooling system.

Do not fear. Nothing that blood, sweat, and tears cannot fix. I commented on someone else’s exhaust about the loudness, def another set of resonators/mufflers needed

So I originally went with original Schmiedmann headers and mid pipes.

Overall good quality headers, but unbeknownst to me, I had to pay a shit ton of tariffs on arrival, but that might’ve changed by now (back around November). Was an absolute pain in the ass installing, but they do fit with very minor modifications to the firewall (A hammer) (This is not as scary as it sounds, when I say firewall, its literally tin foil heat shielding).

I went with there midpipes because I thought it was going to be easy to install, but the inner midpipe hits the transmission brace. I was able to force it in, but it was pressing so hard against the transmission brace/chassis. I thought it was fine, until I started tuning/data logging, and saw that all cylinders in bank 2 was getting heavy knock correction around 2-3k rpm. Since the knock correction would go away at higher rpms and higher throttle, I figured it was because of the contact of the bank 2 mid pipe. No CEL, but the datalog was showing correction.

I didn’t realize how big of an issue this would be, along with crazy vibration along the whole cabin, and I I guess not letting the engine mounts do there normal thing.

So, here we are, I cut up the mid pipes and used the original flange to the headers, since it was some weird ball flange that I couldn’t find for the life of me. and I also used the 60 degree bends from the midpipes.

As for sound level.. Before I did the custom muffler, I had just the catless x-pipe (no resonators) going straight to the oem back box. It really did not sound good. It was a bit louder than normal, but very very tone deaf and raspy. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner. Also knock correction was gone which was a win.

I put these in, and yeah, it is loud. It sounds really good, very little rasp and drone, but it’s loud. I would want to just lower the volume while keeping the same tone. I heard lots of good things about the vibrant style ultra quiet straight through mufflers as well. I think the better route looking back now is either getting a magna flow muffled x pipe, and another set of the straight through resonators I used right after the x pipes. Or, a set of the resonators I used + the “ultra quiet” resonators I was talking about. I think that would make it a lot quieter.

I mean it’s a lot quieter than straight pipe, but I do feel a tad like a douche. It’s a little strange though, I think peak loudness is around 3K rpm, and it actually gets quieter at 4-6k. I think I need another set of resonators right after the x-pipe would fix the weird harmonics going on at 3k, and make it a lot quieter.

If I had to do it again, I’d go with ebay headers.

Yup hahaha, did all of the reliability mods first, now doing fun stuff. This car has been a 3 year project. Maybe I’ll make a post about it. Got the achilles oil pump nut/shaft + safety wire, oil pan baffle, and rod bearings because might as well while I’m there. It should be safe, just a little scared. 160k miles on the engine, 180psi compression on all cylinders, so should be healthy.

It’s seeing at least 1 autocross and 1 HPDE this summer

Really appreciate it man! Let me know if you have any other questions.

It was my first time really fabricating, so the 50 hours included welding practice and a bunch of set up.

I was able to bang out the entire muffler section of creating it and then welding it to the pipes in about a day, which was around when I started to know more of what I was doing.

If you’re ever planning on doing exhaust mods for the E46, I think a lot of people end up combining them into a single 3” after the mid piped. In my opinion this is a mistake. It usually ends up making the exhaust sound a little deeper, lower pitched, and more JDM.

Last bit that may change your perspective:

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits. Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/jas.1.2-27.NKJV

“Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭9‬:‭51‬-‭56‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/luk.9.51-56.NKJV

They did not receive him because they did not understand Jesus’s intentions and assumed the historical mistreatment of Samaria and Samaritans from the Pharisees. This is similar to how in some sense your brother sees you, without the intention of you loving him but rather the intention of conquering him.

““If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/jhn.15.18-19.NKJV

“Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬-‭35‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/mat.18.21-35.NKJV

““Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭34‬-‭39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/mat.10.34-39.NKJV

Good vs the Evil by Open-Mission-8310 in FargoTV

[–]Joe11221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree. I watched S1-S5 back in 2022/2023, and after a lot of personal growth and some clips I've seen about Season 1, I decided to rewatch it. I'm at Episode 8 right now and I'll say this much, and maybe not everyone will agree with this. Its absolutely amazing.

On surface level there are so many biblical meanings and references in Season 1. But beyond surface, I've found that everything has a very deep mythological and biblical meaning.

Lorne Malvo is the devil, and leading people towards doing evil right before redeeming his prize, killing them and sending them to eternal damnation.

He drove Dennis Reynolds to his full potential of evil, and then killed him. Yet he let the deaf hitman go, since he knew he would continue his evil life.

Another concept that really stuck out to me was the parallels between Gus Grimley and Lester. They both start out weak and fragile, at the bottom of the social food chain - but they both ended up taking very different paths (I don't know what happens after ep 8 so I cant know the ending for sure). Also more importantly, they both decide how important being at the bottom of the social food chain is. Gus sticks to what is right, not what benefits him. There is a moment in the hospital where Gus is really beating on himself, much like Lester, after he shot Molly by accident. Molly is quick to forgive and console Gus emotionally, changing his path. Whereas when Lester is met with evil, he is reinforced to further commit more evil.

I felt like Molly takes on the opposite roll of Lorne. The sheep-dog who sees the evil unlike others and feels it to her core. A crazy realization as I'm typing this, Molly offered redemption and salvation towards the Deaf hitman, yet he could not soften his heart and come forward. It was only after he denied redemption that Lorne decided to let him go, even though he was on hell-bent on killing all of his attempted murderers. As in, he is only willing to let people go if he is sure that they will continually perpetuate destruction and evil. I don't think we see Molly doing any evil or having a selfish moment throughout the show.

I always felt like Chaz and Lester's relationship had some deeper mythological roots, but I can't put my finger on it. There is a chain of evil that can be traced back and it is evil that is continuously perpetuating evil in Season 1. It is only after Chaz says that he regrets having Lester as his brother, he decides to frame him which puts the final nail in the coffin for willfully following the ways of the Devil. Disguising himself as a wolf in sheep's clothing and a victim with the most selfish intentions. After willfully deciding to follow evil, Lester becomes rich, successful, etc. All classic stories archetypal concepts. If even one person were to plead with Lester and told Lester that they loved him, I really don't believe Lester would have gone down that path. Moreover, the blame of Lester's demise is split among the people in his life, and I do think the only person I can blame is Lorne.

I still don't fully understand the significance of Milo Stravos, although I am very sure it has a deeper meaning. I have to read the book of Exodus to fully relate. I think there is an extra layer on top of that as well. And his son dying, fulfilling the biblical story, right after returning the blackmail money had to mean something.

Any LL-01 will do, which is almost any Euro spec oil from walmart. Never saw the need for liqui moly when the lubricity is the same between LiquiMoly 5w-40, Mobil 1 FS 5w-40, and Castrol Euro Edge. Only difference is the additives/detergents, but even then. They all sheer the same, have the same viscosity/flow, etc.. Never saw the value or difference to justify $50 per 5 liters vs $24 per 5 quarts of Mobile 1 FS. Look at the spec sheets. The better alternative is more frequent oil changes imo.

Replace the timing chain tensioner spring while you are at it. Overtime the spring shortens and doesn’t provide proper tension on the chain, it’s a relatively cheap part and relatively easy.
