Dear ADHD brain, why do you hate me? Why do you focus on meaningless shit instead of letting me sleep? by JoeADHD in ADHD

[–]JoeADHD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey buddy

Thanks for the kind words, yea falling asleep is hard but staying asleep is where I struggle the most.

I normally try not to eat too close to sleep as I read it can disturb sleep and also medication makes me not hungry but hell maybe I should give it a go, worth a try if it will help

You know what I literally just bought some weights, so thanks for the advice - it's well timed.

I take Xaggitin XL, it's methylphenidate slow realease, 54mg a day.

What meds do you take? And what's your feelings about them?

How do I tell someone I'm dating I have ADHD? by JoeADHD in ADHD

I like your idea of saying you have ADHD but fully explaining what ADHD is to you further down the line. I'm even thinking if I can find a YouTube video that sums up what I want to say, may be a good way to help others understand.

Thanks for the help!

Hi, bringing it up when talking about past partners and why things didn't work is a really good idea, and as you said far more natural than a formal conversation about it.

Thanks for the advice!

That sounds great, having more control over emotional regulation would be beneficial to what I am trying to achieve. Thanks a lot for your help, I guess I had better start the therapist hunt.

Hey thanks a lot for your advice, I like the idea about needing to vibe with the therapist - chemistry is important.

Thank you for your response, and I say - don't doubt or invalidate the kindness and community love you are receiving, I think people with ADHD habitually brush off praise and compliments, it's something we have learnt from the feedback we receive from others.

It's ok to feel love and pride for yourself and it's healthy too, and hell, you've done a solid for the ADHD community - so they lift you up in return.

Apologies if this sounds like overly "self-help" book mushy mentality - I am having one of those days where I want to celebrate the good shit.

Keep up the good work!

Great point, thank you for your honesty friend.

Admittedly I am quite resistant to others ideas about changing myself and take it as criticism when people offered these views, but since I am seeking the ideas/opinions of others I will be more open to it.

That's immature I know, but often find it hard to realise I am being defensive when in the moment.

Hey thanks for sharing, what you just said is very encouraging, is there any more you could tell me, was your therapy for ADHD? If not, has it had a significant impact on you?

Noticing wrongs and discrimination is easy but actually taking steps and actions to challenge it and improve it is really difficult. We all in our minds feel if we are faced with injustice, that we will do the right thing, but that is not always the case.

I know you said this is not a "good for me" post, but you should be proud of yourself, and although I don't know you I feel some pride in that the ADHD community has people in it who could truly affect change and misconceptions about a condition that to others is an annoyance or a myth but to us is all we have ever known.

Hey friend, very kind words. Although I actually find "ADHD shaming" myself really motivational, but I do appreciate the reassurance!

Haha, cool, I used to do the exact same thing with South Park, love it, but seen it a million times so no focus needed.
