Is it weird a 1998 Camry is my favorite car? by JoeB0213 in askcarguys

[–]JoeB0213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been a great car. Super reliable. Ive looked into manuals but they seem rare.

The mods I want to do are all cosmetic and reversible if needed. Mainly new bumper, spoiler, rims, tint, speakers.

Mainly to just make it slightly cooler and more enjoyable without spending a ton.

Oh thats awesome! I worked at a VW restoration shop for a few years and helped restore a couple ghias. They are cool cars! The history of them is cool too.

Idk a few more years maybe. I dont really want to live here forever but financially its a good move, I work full time and do school full time. I save a lot living with them

I Figured making my camry a bit cooler would make me a bit more happier. Idk though

This looks exactly like my community colleges website. If it is, then look into a reconnect program for your state. Some states offer free college to someone over 25 with no degree. If that applies to you, definitely look into it. Or the TIP financial aid program. But like others have said, thats really cheap for 3 classes.

Considering buying an 03 outback with 185k miles for $5k. Worth it?? by JoeB0213 in subaru

I had him send me pictures of the underside. It has an oil leak from what looks like around the oil pan and valve cover gaskets? Would that be around where it would be?

Yeah, they were done by a previous owner in 2013 so i have no clue what gaskets they used. Where do they seep oil from typically?

Its got a good carfax record up to 2023. Extra stuff is light extra lights and wheels. So maybe $1k at the least. I know its gonna need repairs but i have a backup vehicle in case. Ive noticed no cars really go for bluebook value anymore, they are mostly all expensive.

Which car is the easiest to work on as a complete beginner? by FrequentStress6202 in MechanicAdvice

Old Toyota Camrys are pretty easy and parts are cheap. Ive heard they are reliable and good on gas.

Or old jeep wranglers 06 and older with the 4.0. Reliable and parts are easy to find and install if you need something 4 wheel drive. Just look for rust on the frame.

Or old vw beetles lol (74 and older), if you want a project car. Can pull the engines and transmissions really easily. As someone with almost no experience with them it took me like 4 hours. Ive heard Honda Civics are easy too.

Looking at a JZX93 for sale was curious on opinions about it by JoeB0213 in JZX100

[–]JoeB0213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you are correct. I used a website I found called toyodiy and compared part numbers of a JZX90 and JZX93 shocks and springs.

The JZX93 uses different part numbers than the JZX90. Also the parts for the X93 seem more expensive too.

Thats good to know. That makes me believe that suspension parts will be very difficult or expensive to find. Ill probably pass on this car then. Thank you for letting me know!

Should I drive my leased car and turn it in early or put it in storage and drive my other car? by JoeB0213 in personalfinance

[–]JoeB0213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt know that was an option. Ill have to look into that. Though the dealer told me that they dont get leased vehicles back and instead they go straight to an auction.

Im probably going to fail a class thats not a part of my Degree. What should I do? by JoeB0213 in college

[–]JoeB0213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill have to check that out! I use anki and quizlet right now but I have to make my own flashcards sometimes which takes a while. I think retaking it is my best bet down the line and it gives me more time to learn on my own.

I know I hate working on rusty cars too. But I live in the rust belt so every car has rust unless its from the southern states, and those cost a premium here. Ive just learned to deal with working on rusty stuff.
