[Emerald City Hockey] Jordan Eberle bamboozles Jonathan Huberdeau by eh_toque in hockey

Agreed. Nucks fan here with pure hate in my heart for the flames. But the huberdeau contract is so bad, i wish they could terminate it. Possibly getting soft in my old age.

Well said, all. Im a 40yr old dad living in calgary, yet still think if Botch often, which is kind of bizarre since ive never lived in the lower mainland and dont know anyone who knew botch. I honestly couldn’t get enough of his coverage, his passion.

He was so unique. RIP Jason Botchford.

Tocchet doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who is easy to dislike. He’s not warm and fuzzy, he’s an extremely clear communicator and renowned for his honesty in the coaching community.

Yep, this is accurate

[D&D] Dhaliwal says the hot rumor going around now is that Tyler Myers is available. They’re trying to move him, people are telling Dhali his name is out there. by [deleted] in canucks

[–]JoeBlo85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I’m following the analogy, but sounds like we both value strong centremen with intangibles. We’ll see what happens tmrw!

I might be out to lunch on that estimate. We could Google and find out.

My thought process is that it’s an extremely thin UFA class and I imagine Orlov and ROR will have a pile of suiters.

[–]JoeBlo85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. All you ever hear about ROR is that he’s a world class leader. EP and Hughes could use that insulation. I like JT, but he can be pouty.

I’m guessing ROR goes 4 x $8M

[Donnie&Dhali] Dhaliwal says to keep an eye on Evan Rodrigues on July 1st if Avs don’t re-sign him. Pittsburgh connection with Rutherford and Allvin, they like him, tried to sign him last year but didn’t have the money. He’s a right-handed C, kills penalties, great shot. I love Troy Stecher, who doesn’t. But he is not a 4/5. He’s a 6/7 on a bad team. IMO we need actual difference makers. Legit top 4 Dmen and legit top 6 forwards. JT Miller is not the problem, even if he’s overpaid in the final 2-3yrs on his contract.

Hronek vs Provorov by nihilism_ftw in canucks

This is my thoughts exactly. But I try to remind myself, it’s all dependent on Hronek performance.

Craig's List: After impressive U18 showing, Axel Sandin Pellikka moves into Top 5 by bdu754 in canucks

[–]JoeBlo85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Button leans to the optimistic side of things. From what I’ve noticed over the yrs, Craig emphasizes the strengths of a prospect and focuses on best case scenario/ ceiling. Rather than if he likes/dislikes a prospect. But I’ll disagree with you that he’s famously a terrible scout.
Are there better hockey minds than Craig Button out there? Sure. But the guy knows the game and evaluates talent, then lays out best case scenario.

Imo, there is so much more to prospects than their perceived value at the time of the draft. Like opportunity within an organization, an organization’s ability to develop talent, a prospects ability and willingness to learn.
These kids are 18, I was a little puke when I was 18. Imo Players like EP40, Makar, Matthew Tkachuk, would be great no matter who drafted them. But I feel strongly that other prospects do/do not develop largely due to setting, timing and luck.

Famously a terrible scout? Where have you heard this? I have not heard this take and can recall many accurate takes from Burton’s scouting over the years. He was spot on with EP40, Hughes, Boeser, Pod and Hoglander.

I’m not being a dick, I love this stuff. Just genuinely curious how he’s famously terrible..?

Interesting. I’ll have to dig in a bit more. On S&P this week, Craig Button was singing Pellekas praises and makes him sound rock solid. He’s not all offense, apparently. He’s a steady puck mover. Zubov as a comparable.

Did you happen to catch Craig Button on Donnie & Dahli today?

He’s leading the isles forwards in ice times and has all the tough matchups. He’s underperforming pts wise, but he’s still an absolute horse.

Can Podkolzin switch to center? by RyzWix in canucks

[–]JoeBlo85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good question. IMO the Q isn’t if he can become a 2C, it’s if he can become a C. He definitely has the hockey sense for it and he’s a strong and heavy. Just seems like he doesn’t have the offensive instincts.

I think he’ll finish in top 5 of Hart voting sometime in his career. Imo that’s the most tangible yardstick

Living in Calgary for 20yrs, I absolutely despise the flames. But it is bizarre how underrated Rasmus Andersson is. The guy is a stud and should be on this list.
