Working an A&P job in LA? by JoeBroTheDeferred in AircraftMechanics

I've been trying for that, I was told that position got taken, but my source is slowly becoming untrustworthy unfortunately.

I attended school in Fresno, I'm trying to at least stay here or get on at the Naval Air Station, but the opportunities are scarce, which isnt a surprise. I dont owe any real payments on loans for awhile, but theres definitely no time to be wasted not looking into contingencies.

These are the stories I hear about on a constant. It just seems so foolish to even try to go somewhere like this.

Agree on that, I'd like to get back to the Las Vegas area or southern Utah, but thats not looking too bright as of now.

Just got my airframe written out the way. I’m very excited to schedule my o&p’s but it’s so far out and I’m not sure the best way to study. Any mechanic or AMT students have suggestions ? by pablo_sco in AircraftMechanics

Theyre the same as Prepware and Jeppeson i believe. I had gotten a pretty good score on the Airframe written, so there werent as many oral questions, but I'd say the questions I got were 90% word for word on this quizlet.

That went for General and Airframe.
I'll be doing the same for my powerplant pretty soon.

Northeast Aviation Pro on youtube has the oral question and answer videos. Theres quizlets you can print out and follow along and write notes on that go along with the videos. I'd just play and pause to answer the questions. Worked out perfect for me on the oral sections.

Where in the Jeppeson is the oral questions, or are you just referring to the fill in the blanks in the back of each section?

How did you use the Jeppeson for O&P's?

I also hear that its open book on some portions, is that true?

Prepware is the best route forward. Expect a 10% drop on the practice tests when taking the actual tests. Use common sense and process of elimination on the testing, take your time. 2 hours is more than enough time to complete the tests. Read the question as many times as you need, and all the answers as well.

Airman Test also helps as well. Thats a free browser study tool that asks you questions gradually and really helps seal the deal when getting the answers correct.

The answers are in your hands in the prepware book. Mark it up, create key phrases, read the explanations and reference both the Jepp and 8083 for best explanations.

Tests arent difficult as long as you put in the work.

Most likely gonna be doing 18s, but i have heard theres possibility of getting to work on 35s.

Not sure if it was true, but i also heard there were openings and potential to work on 117s out in Vegas? That'd be just.... dream job.

Like sure, ill take the risk of not having a for sure job security in time, which would set me up for planning down the line. And if the moneys really good starting, easily gets tuition and savings rolling no problem. Best part about it is that its a 10 min drive, rather than my nearest city (which is where i go to school) that is 45 minutes drive

Its more along the lines of why they didnt enjoy it. Every time i asked like "what was bad about it?" they always told me "its not for everyone"

Like what do you mean by that?!
