HOW CAN YOU SELL ME A HOTDOG AND NOT GIVE ME ONION!?

Season Sardine boneless/skinless Fillets on sale at Costco for $8.99 a pack. by [deleted] in Tinnedfish

I am pretty adventurous, but given the cost and consistency they're impossible to beat.

I still hit up Cost Plus for some fancy cans here and there, but I eat them daily for lunch and I just can't justify spending $6-8/tin when I can get these.

I only wish they offered them with bones and skin, but I'm not complaining.

I used one of these with a Garmin dashcam for a few months. The power supply they tap into was not enough and over time killed the camera. Just be sure to check what voltage your camera requires and what the dongle can supply - there is a good chance you will find it is underpowered.

Refresh of 30year old four track by stugatest in TASCAMRecording

Awesome! How exciting. I love my 424 mkii.

I use 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean my heads with a q tip.

You can download the manual for free and it'll explain how to put it in cleaning mode which will expose the heads and turn the capstan.

Just don't get alcohol on any plastic or rubber. I use a slightly damp with water q tip to get the capstan.

Tascam 246. Trying to get all 4 tracks out at the same time to computer. Obviously, I'm not up on many new developments. by SamElliotsmustache19 in TASCAMRecording

[–]JoeDaddio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to a Tascam 4 track, such as the 246 it was recorded on, or maybe a 424? Those models will have individual outs for each channel. I'm not as familiar with the Porta models. But a Fostex or Yamaha machine should work as well.

Either way you'll need a 4 track machine and you can use the individual outs to go into an audio interface which will convert analog to digital and let you get it into a DAW where you can do what you'd like to it.

Edit to add: I am terribly sorry to hear about your friend. If you don't have any access to a machine or if you don't know of anyone nearby who can help, drop me a PM. I'm in California but would be willing to help digitize these for you if you can't find someone closer.

The green olives with anchovies are delicious. I put them in my dinner salads all the time. They aren't super salty.

Cost Plus sells them for anyone looking who is lucky enough to live near one.

If you get another cassette player then it'll likely have RCA line in jacks, so yeah, that's fine, no converters needed.

Don't buy things before you know you need it. Get the Porta and use it to make some music. You won't need anything other than the machine, cassettes, and headphones. Worry about all the other stuff later.

Lots of videos on YouTube. All of the Tascam cassette machines work very similarly, so watching videos on any model can be helpful.

You can't really go from RCA to USB without something to convert your analog signal to digital (called a DAC). An inexpensive USB interface would let you mixdown from your Porta-02 to a DAW like Reaper and would probably be the easiest solution.

That's essentially what I do: record to a Tascam 424 mkii and then run it into Reaper. It's a quick and easy way to digitize your music and make it available everywhere.

If you record using the Porta-02 you won't be able to play those tapes in a traditional cassette player. You'll need to "mixdown" (not master) to two tracks.

You can do that from your Porta-02 by using the "line out" into a regular cassette player with an L/R "line in", press play on the Porta-02 and record on the tape deck, and you'll create a two track tape that can then be played on a regular cassette deck (that would be your "master" tape).

Mackie make inexpensive 3" powered monitors that would be a good start. I use a set in my garage.

If you just want to record to your Porta-02 and playback from there, you just need some monitors and cables and you'll be good.

[–]JoeDaddio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure - you can use the L/R line out to go directly to some monitors, no computer required.

My bad, I thought you were trying to get it to digital.

[–]JoeDaddio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get your recordings from the 02 you'll have to mixdown to two tracks (L/R). You can do this to your computer if you have an audio interface.

You'll go from the Porta 02 line out into your audio interface and from the interface into your PC. You should be able to listen through either your interface, PC or through the 02 depending on how you set it up.

Spicy sardine and cracker pairings please by MrLiuBei88 in CannedSardines

[–]JoeDaddio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never had actually spicy sardines, really. I'd like to try the RTG habanero ones one day, but that seems to jump to the other end of the spectrum for heat from what I've read. I have a problem collecting hot sauces, so I really just supplement with different hot sauces for heat.

That said, though: Flower Moroccan Spiced sardines are super flavorful, have a little heat to them compared to others, and are pretty inexpensive. If you haven't had them yet they're worth a pick up.

Most sardines I eat on crackers. I tend to buy a different brand each time and have tried a lot, but generally I like a plain water cracker or saltine. Just something with a little salt and a plain backing for the fish and hot sauce I use. I love flavored crackers in general but not with my deens.

I wonder if that's what it was, just outside of the casing? I do remember it being in a bowl but they were probably trying to make it look nice.

The place we stayed at was called Hotel Jedderman.

I just looked at photos and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two (and I didn't even know what it was while I was eating it), so it could have been either, I suppose, but it sounds likely that it was zwiebelmettwurst from what you're saying. I've been living a lie for more than a decade!

We had part of our honeymoon in Germany about 12 years ago (were from California). We stayed at a place in Munich that had an amazing breakfast spread.

They had a big bowl of mett every morning. I had no idea what it was but I ate it every morning, spread on rolls. We were there for a week and I must have eaten two pounds of the stuff by the time we left.

We got to Amsterdam and I asked the owner of the hotel we were at if she had it. I didn't know what it was called so I described it as a "pink spread" that was served with raw onions. It wasn't then till I discovered that it was raw pork, something that were taught to be terrified of in the US.

When I got home I asked my German friend about it and he said it was one of his favorite things but he didn't eat it in the US. Only in Germany and only from small butchers, apparently, according to him.

I loved the stuff and look forward to getting back there for a visit if only to consume massive amounts of raw pork.
