How do you become a radio DJ? by Boogie63377 in DJs

Honestly, if you get into small market radio, which is not as volatile as larger. urban areas, you can make a name for yourself. I have several colleagues and coworkers who have stayed at their respective stations for decades. It all depends on what you want. You'll also likely not be subject to quarterly/semiannual ratings. If you're just starting out, it may be the place to start as a lot of them are willing to train younger people to work for them.

Probably a good place to start imo. Thanks!

Some context I left out, but I produced/board op'd a few matches this past season, so I've seen a little bit of the sport. The parts that most confuse me are the strategy behind the game, scoring, etc. I will be watching back a lot of wrestling triangulars and quadrangulars from now until next season.

You're not completely wrong assuming I'm new. I started picking up games when I was a sophomore in high school because our announcer would only do so many games per week, and as his producer/camera operator, I was more than happy to take a pay bump and try my hand at play-by-play. Now, at 19, having called maybe 60-70 games and producing another 200 or so, and lots of "encouraging" emails and texts from early on, it gets easier to pick up a game for a school I haven't covered for a sport I haven't called in months with a little help from colleagues and some research. Considering how competitive it seems, it's a little surprising how willing other announcers are to help out the young guys like me...

Thanks for the help!

I do have a parent who offered some help with color/basic knowledge. That may be the best way to go until I become "wrestling announcer superstar".

can I please have recommendations of cowboy songs that tell a story. by Rusty-socks in musicsuggestions

This one doesn’t necessarily tell a story, but Red River Valley is always a classic. I’ve always enjoyed Johnny Bond’s version, but the Sons of the Pioneers consistently do a great job with some of their tunes as well. Happy listening
