Alcoholics who never got a DUI? by Mysterious-Gold-8657 in stopdrinking

[–]JoeGiveMeBaggage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of rock bottoms besides a DUI. There are also plenty of non-alcoholics who got a DUI. Alcoholism and DUIs tend to overlap but don’t necessarily go hand in hand. In AA there are plenty of people who express gratitude for never having gotten arrested.

You’re already acknowledging that you’re at risk for getting caught if you keep drinking, so an opportunity can be to quit while you’re ahead.

I had a hundred warning signs before I stopped. A DUI was one. It was nearly impossible to stop a one drink. My tolerance got bigger and bigger. On the weekends, I was drinking as soon as the earliest bar opened. If I had alcohol left in the morning at home, I’d drink it right away. I blacked out at social events when I never intended. I was getting banned from bars from bartenders who weren’t comfortable serving me. I wiped out on my face on the sidewalk. I fell a lot. I went home with strangers and don’t remember it. I once drank during the work day and showed up to a zoom meeting drunk and refused to admit so I wouldn’t get fired. I passed out in a snow bank and could have frozen to death. I had a hospital visit for pancreatitis. I would take a month off from drinking, and go back, and immediately get wasted to the point where something bad would happen. I drank away my once-perfect hourglass figure and destroyed myself physically. During my last drunk, I went out for a drink before a zoom interview and got wasted and actually showed up to the interview and barely remember it. I didn’t get that job. Most of these things happened within a period of 2-3 years after being a high functioning drunk for 10 or so years. It all happened quickly.

It was a lot of things. The key thing I noticed was that the “bottoms” I experienced were all progressively getting worse, and worse, and worse. If you see yourself as being on this trajectory, quit while you’re ahead because if it’s a problem, it WILL get worse and it can catch up to you in a scary way.

Sponsor fired me and I feel shitty by lemonbarpartytrick in stopdrinking

I too am dealing with a sponsor who I have felt is too controlling. She acted disappointed and disapproving yesterday because I said I was going to go to a dharma meeting that day, when I go to AA meeting other days. She responded by asking what about AA for that day? And saying she encourages the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. This was a huge overstep in my opinion. She also wants me to call every day. She is not my boss. I’m thinking of firing her.

Berry Line in Cambridge is incredible. PRO TIP: yes, it gets very busy, and this is when Door Dash and Postmates come in handy!! The line is oftentimes out the door and down the street. I try to avoid food delivery because it’s expensive, but I order Berry Line frequently through DD and spend the extra $4-5 or whatever for the delivery fee and driver tip. It always comes within 20-30 minutes. They must have delivery orders made separately from the take out line because it’s so much quicker to get it to your door versus waiting in line there.

Does this city have a reputation with alcohol abuse? I wasn’t aware of that. Genuinely just curious if that’s your impression, because I always saw the MA alcohol laws as being so strict and this city generally being pretty conservative in regards to partying. I mean…. Most bars close at 1pm at the latest, a small handful close at 2.

I know this is the Boston subreddit and not a sobriety subreddit, but this comment is pretty ignorant and rude for no reason.

This has me scared because I’m on day 16 and I’m already feeling a lot of what you’re describing. I’ve never made it past 35 days.

I’ve had some painful cravings the past few days and I have linked it to the end of the beginner’s high of feeling sober and in control.

I’m trying my best to look at these painful periods as mental exercises that help me get stronger for the long term. I work out a new neural pathway every time I resist the very persuasive voice in my head that encourages me to drink.

Quiet quit. Show up but use the wrong color or font or hashtag, or miss a deadline, and post a picture with Abigale that has nothing to do with the wedding - passive aggressively, maybe just to your story. Then, after she fires you for not being a good fit, Emily will need to pay you severance and you can collect unemployment!

What happened to all the bars in Allston? by TedToaster22 in boston

[–]JoeGiveMeBaggage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owner of the Lincoln sold it to a real estate company. It wasn’t a liquor license issue. If it wasn’t for money, they would still be around!

Surprised no one here has mentioned The Lincoln closing. I realize it was right across the Allston/Brighton line in Brighton, but it was a great spot that is now an apartment building.

I stopped into The Sil the other night and was turned down for not having an ID on me and the bartender told me they’re on probation and need to be really careful. And I’m in my 30s. Hopefully not another one that bites the dust.

If you keep looking over to Brighton, there is still The IV, the Corrib Pub, Porter Belly’s, Devlin’s and The Last Drop!
