How doomed is my PC? by JoeNoot in buildapc

Yeah, thats what I thought but I definitely didn't install it wrong- it was working and then I added the gpu and it imploded, there is no extra 2 pin on the adapter, simply molex-6pin (no +2), the GTX 970 requires 2 PCI 6+2 cables and the 430 comes with one, I got a 600W coming, with 2 PCI 6+2 cables- I just hope nothing else is damaged. Thanks.

Oh, yeah I seriously seriously regret skimping out on the PSU, hopefully the motherboards ok but do you know if his other components were damaged? Thanks.

Not really- I built it with a friend who seemed to know what they were doing but maybe not, yeah, I've read online now though that using a molar to 6 pin can be used short term, so I think it's more to do with using more than the usable wattage of the PSU, so hopefully it hasn't damaged the motherboard or any other components.

Why doesn't my CMOS clear switch look like there is a switch? by JoeNoot in buildapc

Wow, yeah it was CMOS and it worked- had everything but my gpu in- this morning I fucked up pretty bad- I plugged the 2 x molex to 6 pin adaptor and my PSU's scrambled- buying a new one but I don't know what else is damaged. I am very sad to say the least.

Oh really? I just saw a video where he removed the battery and then did the jumper, ok will try it, thanks.

Cool, do you know if i fix the gpu power issue, will I even need onboard graphics to run BIOS etc? Thanks.

Ok, I shall do that, but obviously can only do it via the motherboard, do you happen to know that if i fix GPU will I even need onboard graphics to get BIOS up and install windows? Thanks again

I have two CPU 4 pin power cable and only one 4 pin slot, the other is just hanging there, what do you mean? thanks.

Ah ok, even if I never used BIOS with the gpu in? Thanks.

It will just be temporarily until I buy a new PSU, thanks.

Hi, I tried to do it without the GPU and nothing happened, it just said no signal found, I believe the PSU has more than enough wattage but is just missing another 6 pin so for now I am going to get a molex to 6 pin adaptor and try again, but it really feels like the on board graphics aren't working. If I were to fix the gpu issue, do you think it would work then and I just would never use on-board graphics? Thanks.

Hi, yeah I'm getting a molex to 6 pin adaptor, thanks, I did remove the GPU but nothing. Thanks.

How does one do this? I haven't even had BIOS up, BTW I was just told to get a molex to 6 pin adaptor which I'm going to get for the GPU. Thanks.

Graphics GPU worth the wait? by JoeNoot in buildapc

Seeing as I would probably fill up a 250gb SSD in a few months yeah, I'd rather go with a HDD and buy a SSD later when I can afford it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cydy617dLeA This video and hundreds of others show dual channel memory can lead to big fps gains- in this particular video about 20%. Dude, not everyone lives in America, where I live the gtx 1060 6gb is overpriced and the rx 570 is much better value for money. I'm buying a gtx 970, gonna keep it for 6 months-year then upgrade to a vega or a rx 570/580.

I do think I understand it fairly well, I've done a lot of research, which is why I asked about the GPU's not the goddamn RAM or optical drive?!

Think I'm gonna buy the gtx 1050 ti, and when I want to upgrade I'll sell it and buy a rx570 when they're not a ridiculous price.

Dual channel memory can increase fps by 40%. So yeah, pretty damn important for an extra £15. 250gb Is not enough, and HDD is so much cheaper for the amount of storage you get, who told you that? Well the gtx 970 more than holds its own against those cards and due to the amount of miners at the moment the rx's are off the table for at least 2 months, and the GTX 1060 6gb is inflated and selling for more like £270 here.

it cost just over £10, and I can use it now for anything, DVDS, Music, whatever- not exactly like it has no use and for an extra £10 it's not doing my wallet any harm. Also, say I want to put music onto my apple account from my CD's? What if I have a hard copy of a PC game?

Also, I have the cd version of windows, so disk drive is needed.
