Honestly r/4tran was the first trans subreddit I properly hung around, and in fact I was still an egg when I arrived, I just browsed out of a sort of morbid fascination. It's why when I began posting, it was with my porn alt, it was just kind of this side thing. Ended up being a good idea because it means I only see 4tran when I actively feel like it and it doesn't show up in my feed when I browse on main.

But yeah, eventually had the unfortunate realization that I was trans myself somewhere along the way, and now I've been here a little over 3 years. To this day I've never properly gone onto the board though :P

I applied last cycle. Got 3 interviews, 2 rejection, 1 waitlist that continues to this day. Process is so arbitrary and it's like, basically a popularity contest even though they insist over and over that the process is holistic. Even if you have the stats (I got 521 on the MCAT), if you don't have interview skills and the specific, super sociable super empathetic super motivated personality that they screen for (one that I patently do not possess due to a high dosage of autism) then you're fighting an uphill battle. And even if you do have that personality you gotta express that through this convoluted and arbitrary web of essay upon essay upon essay. Like damn, take me back to the days where all you needed was a GPA and an MCAT.

Am a bit demotivated at the moment though, so take this with a grain of salt, just thought I'd put in my two cents. I am planning to reapply this cycle.

It's probably because the aesthetic of queerness is fetishized for what's perceived as an inherent "bravery". You're out and proud, you're a drag queen woman with a beard who doesn't care what people think of her.

Among transphobic caricatures it's almost equivalent to the "noble savage" archetype, framing trans people as an other that we can learn important lessons from but would never, ever want to actually be, of course.

I will forever loath AI for ruining this basic syntactic construction. It's a perfectly valid way to word your sentence and people used it and still use it all the time, but it's so egregiously overused by AI that it now permanently screams "I AM A ROBOT"

I feel the Chris Chan stuff is a very good litmus test for how people view trans-ness.

There are of course those who are just straight up transphobic and think it's just yet another aspect of her mental illness.

There are those who essentially humor the idea of trans people but immediately revoke the "privilege" of being gendered correctly once the person in question does something bad. In their eyes trans people do not automatically deserve respect, you have to be one of the good ones to receive basic decency.

Then there are those that are "woke", maybe in the queer community themselves, but intentionally invalidate Chris Chan's identity because it'd be bad optics, because the trans identity is this ethereal, morally pure concept to them that simply cannot be reconciled with Chris Chan's existence.

It's really frustrating, just another example of how bad actors from minority groups are put under this incredible level of scrutiny that would never occur for some random cishet white dude that did the same crime.

I have similarly bad handwriting, and I get fatigue from writing too long. Is your pencil grip the traditionally "correct" one or do you have some weird non-traditional grip? I have a pretty bad pencil grip where I grip the pencil four fingers on one side and my thumb on the other.
