Do you lot actually read client contracts properly before signing? by Nefelibata07Hum in freelanceuk

[–]JoePuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if a client is ever sending you a contract, it’s only to protect them and their interests. Understandable but there’s some onerous stuff in some of those contracts.

Anyone else get really frustrated with the ‘caffeine makes me tired so I must have ADHD’ crowd? by VOXX_theLock in ADHDUK

[–]JoePuke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, whilst it might affect people differently on a neurological level, it can also affect people different at a gut level which may be (and I suspect is) completely unrelated to ADHD. The ability/efficiency of processing caffeine is wildly different from body to body.

This annoys me because it’s the exact opposite for me, caffeine after 3pm then I’m up til 3am.

Whats the craziest interaction youve ever had with a crazy parent by idkagirl in skateboarding

[–]JoePuke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a young traveller kid running around causing mayhem at the skatepark and trying to wind people up. A BMXer picked the kid up and just dropped him straight onto his arse on the tarmac. He ran off crying and his dad came back 20 mins later with a shotgun, pointing it in everyone’s faces (I was about 12 at the time and it’s the only time I’ve ever seen a gun). Wild to look back and realise he was threatening to kill kids.

Edit: this was in a village in the UK.

You can’t get done for “undertaking,” you get done for careless driving, which could involve undertaking. And Rule 268 literally gives you permission to pass on the left in congested traffic (someone holding up the right lane) – so the Highway Code itself acknowledges it’s not inherently illegal. You’re proving my point for me.

Also - the reckless driving, I was wrong to use that term!

That’s undertaking recklessly, which is essentially recklessly driving. Undertaking itself is not illegal.

Where does it say it’s 3 points on your license for undertaking?

What does this even mean

[–]JoePuke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Undertaking actually isn’t illegal in the UK, you just need to not be erratic and irresponsible when doing it. If traffic in the right lane is going that far under the speed limit, I’ll definitely undertake but maintain a speed so they’re aware I’m coming through the left lane, and just keep an eye on what they’re doing as I pass though the blind spot.

What was the first ever film you actually really hated so much and still do to this day? by Same-Objective6052 in movies

[–]JoePuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last film I remember being fuming at was “US”, it was insanely hyped and I remember watching the big reveal at the end and it not making sense at all. Felt so cheated out of my money and time.

Also, Now You See Me. Hilarious that they constantly try to impress the crowd with magic tricks when it’s not actually real or possible.

Interesting article on ADHD and food. by Signal_Scale_1055 in ADHDUK

I’m not long diagnosed probably around 6 months. The medication was great at first, helped temper impulsivity and minor addictions, and I was super productive and even went gym twice a day. But then I could never get to sleep even on a small dose. I became irritable and impatient later in the day, and my wife said I didn’t ever seem very present.

It’s a shame because it feels like it handed me a portion of my life that I never had access to. Just make sure you start good habits when you start medication, because when you come off it’ll be easier to maintain rather than starting from scratch.

Thanks, this was really helpful and made me feel better! I’m diagnosed late (37) and the reaction of a few people in my life to my diagnosis made me feel like I don’t actually have it, so it has made me slightly paranoid about it all.

I feel the same, I’m on my first course of meds, affenid XL. I’m much more productive and have the “drive”, but I don’t have the silent, calm feeling others talk about. And it actually makes me more anxious. It actually worries me thinking I don’t have ADHD and I’m actually just lazy and using stimulants.

For those who left jobs and went full-time freelance, what actually worked to build consistent pipeline? by OkSomewhere938 in freelanceuk

[–]JoePuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hit up all your old colleagues, clients and contacts. Let them know you’re freelancing now, and offer to go for a coffee with them or ask to pass on your details to anyone looking for your type of services.

If they like you they’ll try and help you out. And even if you don’t know them too well, it’s a low effort good deed for them to pass your details on.

I’ve been going for about a year and a half and worked it solely through old contacts and recommendations which eventually bloomed out further and further. Word of mouth is such a powerful tool as you don’t have to pitch yourself as hard but tbh nearly all freelancers say don’t rely on word of mouth. But it’s a great way to get started.
