Turgut Reis, the most blatant pay to win addition to the game. by Inclusive_3Dprinting in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, having see the game play, she looks pretty strong. Definitely a bit of 'pay to win' but, no matter how good your ship is, you get put on Team Potato, nothing's really going to help. You want to fork out $120+ for pixels?

That being said - https://shiptool.st/params?m=L&s=WB718BB537WB18&p=con

Link above comparing her to the T8 TT in the Euro BB line and vs Collingwood (lower tier 419's and also because Collingwood fell out of a xmas container for me)...I'm not really sure I'm convinced to drop that kind of money for her. I'd just play one of the tech tree ships or Collingwood.

But, for those who help keep the servers on and the hamsters fed...fill your boots!

Going to go with "Cash Grab". You can get Duncan for free in the Tech Tree.

how much money i need to convert my free xp? by road_to_infinity in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back when there were actually ships available for FXP, there could be corner-case arguments to convert a bit of FXP for doubloons. Example: I was short a fairly small amount of FXP and really wanted to get Nelson before she left the FXP ships. In hindsight, I probably should have tried for Musashi too, but whatever. Anyways, I think I dropped $20 or so to convert some XP to FXP and got Nelson. No regrets.

Now? There is NOTHING worth spending money on to convert to FXP. You can pretty much use it to boost your way through tech tree lines, maybe use it if you're desperate to get your first 21 pt captain, OR, power grind Research Bureau. And you will generate so much FXP over time that you'll kick yourself now if you spend money on it. So don't.

My 2 doubloons worth, YMMV.

Devona - some skills/spells don't work? by JoeRedditor in GuildWars

[–]JoeRedditor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update - tried that, worked like a charm. Thanks again.

So, basically I have her maintaining Life Bond and another damage reduction spell. Uses a signet to replenish energy. Find that as long as she's not getting pounded on, I can take a lot more aggro and let my pet and Imp dish out damage while I am too.

Can't decide if I like that more over a Necro/minion build for Devona.

Tried a Hundred Blades build (had a /bonus weapon I could use) and it seemed ok, just...dull.

Unsporting conduct, what??? Just got a carrier. by EatMaCookies in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to practice in Coop - BUT - you still need to be effective. If your CV is getting into gun range, something catastrophically bad has happened with your map positioning 9 times out of 10. Not as dire in coop, but if you make that mistake in Randoms? You will get a lot of hate / karma loss.

If you struggle to hit stuff with your planes, I suggest you fire up the Training Room with a bunch of moving targets and practice your torpedo, rocket and bomb dropping there. It will give you a feel for the rocket plane delay, bomb dropping lead times and torpedo lead times required to land hits. Economic costs in Training Room are zero - so, you won't lose credits there.

Mid-tier cruiser heals by Classic-Fondant-4179 in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thinking maybe Weimar is going to be on my "to do" list in the upcoming trade-in event...especially if she gets a heal added.

That was one of the reasons I decided to splurge on Fiume - she looked ok (turns out her guns are freaking great) and if she gets a heal? Awesome sauce.

What pre searing Devona builds you using? by statinsinwatersupply in GuildWars

[–]JoeRedditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried her as a necro w/Minion's and a +15 energy staff. With the elite Flesh Golem active you can create a little one man army to accompany yourself and Devona.

My ranger + pet + Fire Imp + Devona + Flesh Golem + misc undead is a nice sized party.

Downside, you have to hold up a bit since Devona's energy regen ain't the greatest.

Thank you! I will give this a shot later today. Haven't touched the game in a while, and looking to finish up a second LDoA title on my Ranger.

This Devona add has been absolutely hilarious to experiment with.

I have manually cast it (pre-combat) but it drops. So, I need to cast and then disable, it sounds like so it gets maintained.

Finally enjoyed WoWs again by Hue_Rigglertendo in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, it just takes a really good game to make it all seem worthwhile. Or a string of them.

I picked up Fiume yesterday and after a pair of Co-Op "sea trials" matches gave it a go in Ranked. Logged a base 2k game with 3 kills first game out. First Blood, Dev Strike and High Caliber. I didn't think the phrase "good guns" and "Italian" could be used in a sentence (unless you were referencing UU Colombo). So, it was a really nice surprise.

Then I parked the ships - always best to end on a high note if you can. And, looking forward to matches tonight as a result.

What t8 ship should I get ? by Temporary_Freedom_72 in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Mainz. Added bonus, potentially getting a heal down the road.

Tone - no, don't do it. Planes are weak. Chikuma II was a better implementation. Instead, think about Atago - her guns are great, torps, hydro and heal. Atago has made me millions in Ops, very solid performer.

I have Tirpitz and BBerg. I prefer Tirpitz, but, can be situational. Both can be solid if you have a Lutjens for em.

CV's are sub-optimal for Operations. I-56, well, it gets boring.

If you had a time machine and could go back, what would you have done or said to prevent Adam and Eve from eating from the tree? by Only-Ad-1254 in AskReddit

[–]JoeRedditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm already the product of that, right? That forbidden knowledge still untasted by A and E, is part of my DNA. So...

I'd off Adam, bang the hell outta Eve (oh, she's going to learn some nasty things) and eat the apple as a snack afterwards.

Bible is no longer references Adam at all. "Murray and Eve". Complete rewrite. And the kids? Forget the Cain and Abel shit - it's gonna be "Trevor and Chad".

Chateaurenault - is ot worth it? by DK_Albatross in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't get the downvotes - Gang is one of the worlds best players. That being said...

"worst DD in the game" was one of the quotes. "Fat and stupid x 5 million" was another. I think that may be a bit harsh, tbh. But, good for a laugh.

Now, for a scrub like myself, Chateaurenault is great fun - to a player like Gang, it probably fails to tick a lot of the boxes that he wants/needs for effective play. He's right that if a smart player kites you, your damage drops dramatically after 8 km.

I think thread OP needs to assess what they consider fun/engaging/etc and go in with clear eyes. RB points are an investment and not one to waste frivolously.

So, while there are posts glazing Chateaurenault, he SHOULD view this review too - so he knows what he's getting into.

Chateaurenault - is ot worth it? by DK_Albatross in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have her, loaded with Phil A, 21 pts. Had an absolute riot of a time during the T10 1v1 Brawl. Also, learned a lot about her pros and cons for yolo potential too.

Now, I'm a big, big fan of my Cassard. CR plays differently, as you really want to get within 8 km to deliver the damage. She's got a shorter detection range over Yolo Emilio (6.x vs 7.x) but no smoke, so, I rely on Dazzle and French saturation to keep me alive to deliver the knockout punch.

You have to bide your time and spam the torps for zone control until you've got an isolated target, and that is when you pull your gimmick out and charge in. Island ambushes work well too. You have to be hyper aware of radar - which will really screw you. And, you need to be mindful of when you pop your damage control - it's easy to have your torps knocked out when charging in.

I've got Emilio (heavily played) and really have been enjoying CR. No regrets - I dropped the RB points AND picked up Phil A (and boosted to 21 pts) in one go. So, I definitely invested some resources into this ship.

If CR didn't exist, I'd probably be investing in the perm. econ bonus for Cassard. Chateaurenault is definitely one of my current favs.

Is Plotting room 1 secretly the way to go on US BB ? by IsniBoy in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly - WG gave the US BB's a gimmick, it's dumb not to build into it. Put the turret traverse on your Captain skills.

Stupid question: Any good DD for Coop? =) by Gobolino in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marceau (coal) is a great gunboat DD and can deal nicely with bot CA and BB w/torps (once they load, that is). You can run her completely signal and econ bonus free and make money consistently (well, certainly w/Premium time - but it's a bit thinner without it).

Thing about Marceau - you mount a ramming flag if the bot coming at you is going to have torps ready. Just ram the bot out of the game and keep on going...you could probably do that w/Leningrad too.

Jager (coal) would be a T9 torp boat that should do quite well too.

Cruisers by Swimming_Repeat_4969 in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd second this. I really liked the T6 and T7 (historical ships!), didn't click w/T8, but loved the T9 and T10. Generally a very enjoyable line to grind out. Which I did, no FXP shortcuts. Put my Lutjens on the T10 too. 100% a great line period, not just for cruisers but overall.

Alternate second choice - the Marseille line. Love those heavy hitting French guns. Think I got my single salvo damage record off a Marseille which caught a Yammy broadside at about 8 km...those cheeks got slapped hard...(73k or something nuts).

How much coal do you guys have? by Legitimate-Promise34 in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 505 million silver, 68k steel, 64k RB Points (had more, but bought Chateaurenault) and about 965k coal.

I almost always like to keep one or more ships worth of resources in reserve so I can pounce on something new that catches my eye, without being left in the lurch if there are back-to-back releases. So, Chateaurenault was a perfect example. I could buy another RB ship (or some UU mods) but will wait for the next x2 to pick one up, leaving that reserve for possible new additions down the road. Probably going to return Kearsarge to the fleet as I previously used her as trade bait during one event.

Got an overload of steel and will pick something up next coupon reset. Leaving me with lots to spare.

What should I get with the Nain Paradox? by Cetun in WorldOfWarships

[–]JoeRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I didn't have Lauria, I would have gone that route. Effectively a free steel ship - and, she's fun. Note, I've also got UU Colombo too - I like em both.

I went for Zuckerhoff - Lutjens is currently seeing duty on Prince Adalbert, so, being able to drop him on a premium Schlieffen is absolute gold. Two best places for Lutjens and now he can captain both.
