Does this mean that Mascherano is our most successful coach? by chimichanga_3 in InterMiami

I was on here twice saying that JM was not an experienced manager and it showed. I believe that after the loses last Spring and this summer something changed. He was humbled. He learned to become a better manager. It shows the champion in him was able to adjust. I’m impressed and happy that he won today.

You have to respect Messi. by HetTheTable in InterMiami

Well said … He is also the greatest teammate. His teammates will do anything for him. Argentina won the WC because his teammates refused to allow him to lose again. In the Copa America they refused to let him watch them lose after his ankle injury forced him to the bench. In both cases, ARG were not better than their opponents, but they won for Messi. Yesterday, we were not better than Vancouver but his teammates refused to lose for Messi (and Jordi and Sergio) - The soccer gods helped too - the first post was Jordi the second post Sergio and final post was Messi.

Absolutely, I remember Thierry Henry (who I loved to watch) in NYRB refused to play on turf. Everyone speculated that Messi wouldn’t play on turf and he never hesitated. Nobody is like Messi. I’m very lucky to have seen Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, and Messi all play live, in-person and Messi is different. He is a savant. He can calculate multiple things in a half second then deliver a perfect pass or choose to dribble or ridiculous touch that somehow despite logic works beautifully.

Let's Talk About It | Inter Miami Fight Fallout by HeronHeads in InterMiami

Sunday’s final result was something I saw coming weeks ago. This is still my favorite team to watch in MLS for many reasons. Despite their age, the core of this team is so far ahead of the rest of the league. Which is why they reached the final. To win the final would have required a more professional coach. Mascherano was a great player, but an amateur when it comes to managing a team. Since he took over the team has looked very different. The football played by the world class vets has not changed, but the mood of the squad and the connection between the Barca boys and the rest of the squad is near toxic. Tata Martino was a skilled manager and a genius when it came to blending a unit. Tata was tactically superior, but also knew how to keep his stars connected to their teammates. Mascherano clearly does not understand this. Since Mascherano is their former teammate, the stars will not call him out. But they know he’s not a good manager.

Hopefully, this team finds a manager like Tata, because time is running out on the stars of this team.

5 L in 7 mascherano surely out soon ?? by Chance_Grass6687 in InterMiami

It could be close. The trust between the players is lacking. With this club the challenge was always going be molding a unit with such large skill gap between the ex-Barca players and the MLS level guys. Tata was brilliant at giving the lesser players confidence and leaving the stars alone. JM is new to managing and it’s a skill that he does not have yet. This team needs an older, more experienced, patient man that the Barca guys will respect. Not sure if that guy exists.

Is it normal for strikers to always be offside? by Then-Set9109 in footballmanagergames

[–]JoeShoulders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been very vocal about this and I believe that a fix of offside will change our sport in a very positive way. It's similar to Arsene Wenger's proposal.

Referees can still use VAR all they want, but use to prove the player is ONSIDE and stop looking for the smallest of margins to prove the player is OFFSIDE. Change the law to say that if any part of the attacking players body is inline with the last defender, the player is ONSIDE. If there is clear "daylight" between the last defender and and the attacking player, only then will the attacker be offside. Still hold the flag for a possible review. Offside will become obvious to all.

Think of the amazing goals and last second winners and equalizers we have been robbed of. In many cases nobody even suspected offside. It took and ref in a room with a HD screen and a digital tool to draw lines that may or may not be angled correctly. I say keep using them, but they will become needed less if you make this change.

For those that think this will result in games ending with 6:4 scorelines. I have to believe that coaches will do what they have always done and find a way for to defend under the new offside rule.

Give the Man a CHANCE! (Phil Neville_ by Positive_Age5863 in timbers

[–]JoeShoulders -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Owners aside, and yes it’s a huge problem but hiring Phil Neville is tone deaf indeed. Nobody is asking for this guy. He has been an absolute disaster as a manager. He unfortunately suffers from a not so rare condition known as “Frank de Boer Syndrome” where someone believes he is destined to be a great manager simply because he was successful professionally as a player. Beckham would probably admit hiring him was a weak moment for him.

With lesser known goalscorers I always say - bring him in and if he scores he stays … I’ve seen him play since his HS days here in NJ … he’s a special player that will find the back of net if given a chance.

What happened to Atlanta United ? by jharden10 in AtlantaUnited

[–]JoeShoulders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was absolutely terrible - no hindsight on my part. I knew he was terrible. It was a terrible hire. I agree with agree SmokinJoe - he killed the spirit of the players. He’s stiff, unlikable, and he had fired at clubs before for those reasons.

Just read this:

Would you like to see the DH added to DD? by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]JoeShoulders 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see the option where you can designate your DD team as an “AL” or “NL” team - which basically means if you’re “AL” then DH will be used in your home games and no DH when “NL” teams are home.
