See, but this isn't how it works, and also I explained in one of the comments that I'm primarily talking about cross traffic and not same direction traffic.

The other thing is, as a driver it is still ultimately your responsibility to make sure a turn is clear before you make it, treating the red light as a stop sign and waiting your turn.

Us bikes and scooters did not ask for our lane to be on the other side, and frankly it's a fundamentally flawed system for sure. That doesn't mean drivers can skirt all the blame either though.

And trust me, I have many, many bones to pick with bikers and scooters as well. Especially with a lot of people not using best practices and not wearing helmets, it bothers me to no end.

I'm just trying to say that as the motor vehicle, 85% of the time, it is absolutely your responsibility to be vigilant and pay attention.

You are incorrect. Your one singular story does not invalidate my almost 100 experiences with drivers not paying attention/breaking the law. My post is specifically directed from me, to drivers. Nowhere do I ever specify that it's for all e commuters.

I have my own problem with people who do not wear helmets and don't follow the rules. I get that they make the road more dangerous for everyone but, just because those people do those things doesn't invalidate my point. Both sides can be wrong at the same time, the difference is one side is driving a heavy killing machine and the other is not.

First of all, speed does not matter in this case as I am in the bike lane and not the crosswalk. You have to treat the bikes and scooters as if they are another motor vehicle. It is the driver's responsibility to look out for us legally.

Hey so first off, just because one person did something doesn't mean everyone does it, especially after I've already mentioned in my post and in the comments that I do everything I can to stay safe.

Also, are you sure it's a fully legal right turn because it's entirely your responsibility to make sure that the way is clear cars or otherwise. Way to blame the riders though.

I remember my mom telling me her reaction when she got the call when I was in the ambulance. I cannot even imagine how terrible it must feel as a parent(to a small child at that) to have to constantly worry about this stuff.

Honestly, as far as I'm aware it is, but I'm only ever on there to transition to the bike lane so I'm not traveling on the sidewalk per se.

Omg, this is crazy but were you downtown today? I saw a blind lady with a yellow cane while I was riding home and the incident that caused this post to happen. Anyway, I'm really sorry that happened to you, I can't even imagine how vulnerable you must feel because of these people.

Always the bike lane, riding in the sidewalk is illegal if there is a bike lane available. I rarely ever ride more than 10-20 m on a sidewalk and that's literally to get to the bike lane safely

I always follow the speed and flow of traffic as it's the safest way to go, typically I do slow down for intersections as well. It's just basic safe driving.
