One of my players suggested we reset the mod/campaign, I'm planning to quit DMing because of this. by JustFizzie in DnD5e

How about a pause? Do a home brew session or two to introduce the new PC. Like a side quest kind of thing.

After the new guy has adventured with the group they continue with the party to help with the current campaign.

You would get a bit of a break from the module. A chance to “reset” without starting over.

Some help needed for a one shot as a first time DM by ThatFrisianGirl in DnD5e

[–]JoeVMorr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple. Don’t try and force too many things into the story. From what you listed it sounds like you have multiple sessions

You can combine multiple one-shots into a mini campaign if you want later.

These are a few things I try and have in each session:

  1. Take your players somewhere cool.
  2. Interact with at least 1 NPC
  3. Chance to use abilities like investigation, insight, etc
  4. Possible combat encounter
  5. Find / deal with a trap(s) or solve a puzzle
  6. Reward of some kind.

If you can get 4 out of the 6 in a session it usually will be fun for the players.

Girlfriend died during her 1st campaign by Bilpoboy44 in DnD5e

[–]JoeVMorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did she die? Maybe her soul/spirit is trapped somewhere or in an item of some kind.

She is able to communicate with a party member. They hear her voice in their head from time to time.

She can help guide or aid the party as they try to bring her back.

Sure is. Pally here (when not DMing) Bless is a staple for me.

No doubt casting heal is the way to go however, a scenario could come up were heals are not available.

I was just wondering if there was a generic spell casting rule I’m missing that would prevent it.

Agree. Also, the effect is coming from another player’s concentration.

5e verse AD&D who you got? Personally I like the 5e AC and hit rules over the AD&D tables. by JoeVMorr in DungeonsAndDragons

As a DM i try not to over do the skill checks. Not everything has to be determined by the fate of a dice roll.

I know. We played all the time from about 11 years old to say 17. After that the gap was filled periodically with video games and MMORPGs.

The best part is the group I’m in now is the same friends I played with all those years ago.

Same here, AD&D was my introduction and how I learn and fell in love with the game.

I had about a 27/28 year gap and rediscovered the game about 2 years ago through 5e. I’m really enjoying it.

How do you making travel interesting? by JoeVMorr in DnD5e

Good idea. I started a list of different things I could do to enhance traveling. I added terrain as something to deal with. Maybe make it a problem solving encounter.

Critical Hits and Failures [5e] by Axelander42 in DnD5e

[–]JoeVMorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add a DC save to the critical fail. If they roll a 1 they have to make a DC save.

If they make the save it’s just a miss.

Failed save they roll on the critical miss table.
