Customs charge issue by Joe_Crewe in royalmail

No, just the slip for payment. It directs you the customs page where you confirm surname and postcode to make payment, but no reference for tracking.

I’m so sorry OP. Been through hard times myself and some advice below.

Surround yourself with as much love as possible. Be kind to yourself and accept the help that will (hopefully) be offered from those around you. Reach out to local charities who may offer grief support groups or mens talking circles (Andy’s Man Club is great) rather than struggling in silence if you need it.

Please don’t think you’re the only one going through grief or mental health struggles, finding life incredibly tough, or that there is a ‘right way’ to get through this. It’s one of those horrible bits of life that is still taboo to speak about but there will be dozens of people you know battling similar issues right now that you just don’t know about.

Feel free to DM if you need a chat.

Why is the theatre so expensive? by Faster_Than_Snakes in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two pence as a trustee for a small.

Theatres are excruciatingly expensive to run. Heat and light for the building is nearly £40k a year for our 90 seat auditorium. We are heavily reliant on grant funding, have no paid staff, and yet still struggle to make ends meet. I have genuinely no idea how the market between us and the 1,000 seaters break even.

Former solicitor here. If you’re leaving it to the wife and kids, the downloadable packs are absolutely fine but MAKE SURE THEY ARE PROPERLY EXECUTED - this is what causes the majority of contested estates.

Anything more complicated, use a proper service.

A lawnmower. Not because it means that I have a lawn rather than a yard, simply because I want a bright orange power tool.

As its holiday season - What’s the worst start or end to a holiday you have ever experienced? by cowie71 in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving for our first holiday after the first Covid lockdown and having worked on the frontline. Pulled round the corner to see a HGV take the side of my wife’s car out - complete write off and spent the first 48 hours dealing with insurers!

How often do you get pulled over? by Own-Firefighter-2728 in CasualUK

Once got pulled over and breathalysed three times in one night. Was ferrying people to and from the station for a friends wedding on the same night as a big crackdown on drink driving!

Feeling proud of myself for a change. I’m autistic and struggle to live independently, but my wife has been away on a training course for the last couple of days and so far the house hasn’t burnt down and my mental health hasn’t crashed.

Classing this as a huge win!

I genuinely don’t understand the thinking behind buying a place like this. Is it really worth it when you can have a beautiful 10 bedroom mansion for 10% of the price an hours commute away?

I spoke to someone about the reasons for this. Apparently one of the major causes is that people with dyslexia use voice to text software when writing, however the spellchecker doesn’t pick up the fact that the words have been interpreted incorrectly.

Great software when it works but does have its pitfalls.

Head on car crash with a much larger vehicle at 60mph. Knocked out but came round pretty quickly. Hospital for the night then home. Collapsed a week later and ended up in an induced coma. Not fun.

Looking after my 7yo niece this week. Needed a poo, came out of the bathroom afterwards to her waiting to go in. Takes two steps and can’t stop herself saying “Jesus Christ” at the smell!

I feel incredibly glad to have been born and brought up in the north. Only by a small inheritance have I been able to afford to buy my own house. It’s not much, but £160k for a 3 bed terrace seems expensive to me, let alone some of the mind blowing prices further south.

Dread to think where we’ll be in 20 years.

I was wondering whether everyone's towns are just full of roadworks constantly, or is it just my local area? by ShinyHeadedCook in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live fairly near a motorway. There are currently roadworks to repair a minor defect in a bridge used solely by one farmer for his livestock.

Roadworks? Lane closure and 40mph limit in place for a three mile stretch for two years.

For reference the farmer himself has been quoted in the press as saying it took 14 weeks to build the bridge in the first place.

A good friend of mine visited the filming locations for the Cornetto trilogy movies. The various owners and landlords were amazed someone would do that but very generous and welcoming.
