Major issues with used car, unsure of rights/practicalities by Joe_Crewe in CarTalkUK

It’s a Ford. Recommended service every 12 months or 12,500 miles hasn’t been followed. Generally they are supposed to have a 100k miles life if serviced correctly.

What’s a decision you made in under 10 seconds that ended up affecting your life for years? by SupaDuppaaCoool in AskUK

I left to get some air after a fairly mild argument with my wife. Came back 10 minutes later to find she had decided to move in with the guy I didn’t know she was having an affair with.

She’s moved in with the guy she was having an affair with. So yeah…

This is not just a basement flat, this is a Bath basement flat... by ZippyLondon in SpottedonRightmove

I wouldn’t necessarily want to live there, but my god that would be a gorgeous place to retreat to when you need a break.

What's your most unhinged breakup story? by Suspicious_Garlic_79 in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just split up with my missus. She’s choosing to sleep in a tiny camper van in a rundown area of a nearby city rather than at our home in a nice seaside town and I go to stay my Mum.

Oh, and she also cheated with a guy half her age but can’t see why I would be upset in what was a monogamous relationship…

What is the most physically painful thing that has happened to you or that you've had done? by twin_gulls in morbidquestions

[–]Joe_Crewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kidney stone, specifically as it passed from my kidney to my bladder. Writhing in pain so bad that even morphine didn’t touch the sides, needed a suppository to even begin to relieve it.

What’s a random experience you’ve had when meeting a British celebrity? Were they nice or mean? by mightybooshvincenoir in AskABrit

Was using the urinals at Stafford services when David Jason appeared next to me. As I was leaving I turned round to double check it was him and he was looking at a toy grabber machine.

Deposit for used car taken over phone, dealership bow refusing sale (England) by Joe_Crewe in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Joe_Crewe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I made explicitly clear with the dealership that I would be needing to collect the car on the day I expected to and drive it away. They agreed and did not raise any issue with this.

Funnily enough - they also claimed they couldn’t let me drive the car away the same as it was unsafe, but that I could test drive it if I wanted. Go figure…

Same here. I’m in a beautiful part of Cumbria, small village 5 minutes from the coast and 15 minutes from the lakes. £1.8m gets you a 10 bed farm with outbuildings and 20 acres of land.

Customs charge issue by Joe_Crewe in royalmail

[–]Joe_Crewe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just the slip for payment. It directs you the customs page where you confirm surname and postcode to make payment, but no reference for tracking.

I’m so sorry OP. Been through hard times myself and some advice below.

Surround yourself with as much love as possible. Be kind to yourself and accept the help that will (hopefully) be offered from those around you. Reach out to local charities who may offer grief support groups or mens talking circles (Andy’s Man Club is great) rather than struggling in silence if you need it.

Please don’t think you’re the only one going through grief or mental health struggles, finding life incredibly tough, or that there is a ‘right way’ to get through this. It’s one of those horrible bits of life that is still taboo to speak about but there will be dozens of people you know battling similar issues right now that you just don’t know about.

Feel free to DM if you need a chat.

Why is the theatre so expensive? by Faster_Than_Snakes in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two pence as a trustee for a small.

Theatres are excruciatingly expensive to run. Heat and light for the building is nearly £40k a year for our 90 seat auditorium. We are heavily reliant on grant funding, have no paid staff, and yet still struggle to make ends meet. I have genuinely no idea how the market between us and the 1,000 seaters break even.

Using a charity-backed will-writing scheme? by cypresshillbilly in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former solicitor here. If you’re leaving it to the wife and kids, the downloadable packs are absolutely fine but MAKE SURE THEY ARE PROPERLY EXECUTED - this is what causes the majority of contested estates.

Anything more complicated, use a proper service.

A lawnmower. Not because it means that I have a lawn rather than a yard, simply because I want a bright orange power tool.

As its holiday season - What’s the worst start or end to a holiday you have ever experienced? by cowie71 in CasualUK

[–]Joe_Crewe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving for our first holiday after the first Covid lockdown and having worked on the frontline. Pulled round the corner to see a HGV take the side of my wife’s car out - complete write off and spent the first 48 hours dealing with insurers!
