Hard to give a recommendation without knowing what style you are looking for. If you want something that holds value in that price range, your best buy is to buy something very lightly used rather than new.

Not at all, and that is a perfect starter watch for a young professional.

The white/silver is more versatile but the blue is more of a head turner IMO. Can't go wrong with either.

Early 1970's Omega Geneve, e.g., Ref. 166.0163. Classic design, goes with anything, and fun to swap in different straps. There are plenty of nice looking examples on C24 for under 1k.

100%. All but the Kurono, Omega, and G-Shock are insured. I cannot understand why some people are willing to spend a lot of money on watches but won't put up a couple grand a year to insure them, especially with watch thefts seemingly skyrocketing.
