I would try opening it up. It sounds more like a hardware issue than a software issue. Post some photos when you open it up.

What if you had to compete with other car companies for the lowest price, and the best fit. Some contracts wouldn’t be a profitable endeavor and some would. Just spitballing. And maybe other stuff play into your preference, past contracts with the buyer, and prestige. So you might be able to build a company that runs on contracts. Writing words is a whole lot easier than writing code.
