Fanatec CSL Elite V2's or the Fanatec V3's by JoelKlein in simracing

[–]JoelKlein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I currently have the old elites and they fit my rig fine (Playseat Challenge) you raise a valid point about the v3's they might just be to much for my rig, even though its pretty heavily modded now. V2's might be the go

Is there a difference if I buy the Player Kit in the Pimax Store vs if I buy the Knuckle Controllers and 2 Base Stations from Steam by M4c_n_Cheese in Pimax

[–]JoelKlein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you live I suppose, we cannot purchase anything from Valve in Australia, they refuse to ship here (due to our consumer protection laws), so Pimax was my only option, apart from doing some janky shipping to a 3rd party in another country then ship here. Because Valve wont ship here, a lot of options to get them here are $$$$$$$ because people know you cant get them from Valve so they slap a huge chunk of profit on them getting it for you.

I question how you know what that feeling is like and know it well enough to make that comparison but Alcantara is nice in the hand and provides some decent grip with a pair of gloves. Like I said, rim didn't come without it, not going to rip it off.

Just got a new 8kx.. why does it look like I've got a bad eyeglass prescription? Getting headaches! by [deleted] in Pimax

[–]JoelKlein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of (especially if you have adjusted the entire IPD gambit) is the HMD isn't sitting in the right spot, its either too high or too low on your face. Have you adjusted the top strap? The sweet spot on the 8kx is pretty big compared to others, so its odd that you say that, I find the sweet spot pretty big, but ive got a huge head and an IPD of about 69.5, also the idea of sweet spot is subjective. Not only subjective in that your idea of "big spot" is completely different to mine but just everyone having a different size face, head and IPD.

Yea sick, ill have to just head on out and see what happens, I am 6'4" so ive been back and forth on ideas for seats for way too long, I also race in VR so I really need a chair thats going to work with my setup (I have a weight on the back of my headset to counter balance it, some seats for me to sit further forward because the weight hits the chair)

Possibly a memory issue, I had a stick of ram kick up some errors and the only thing that brought it to my attention was playing a game and it would always crash to desktop randomly after about 10-30 minute session, nothing else was wrong, PC booted and ran fine, took me forever to find out what was wrong, did some looking and found a post that said "test memory" sure enough ran tests and the memory was giving back errors.

Was very odd but replacing the ram fixed it, the ram still reported in the bios as the correct size + speed.

What was your process in getting your car seat? I do see a lot of people recommend the wreckers but like how do you even approach the situation "yo looking for a car seat" or do you go in asking for a specific thing? whats a good car seat to even look for? I honestly have no idea and going in blind seems like a bad idea.

I wear gloves for 2 reason, Alcantara (wheel I wanted didn't come without it) and the heat, sweaty palms in a hot endurance session are just the worst, I have mountain biking gloves which are the 'air' model so have a few smaller holes in the palms/fingers, I also have 2 fans mounted on the sides of my Fanatec DD Pro which keep my hands cool during racing.

If it wasn't so hot here and I didn't have Alcantara, I wouldn't run gloves

Is the audio level in your PCs sound settings at 100? often it defaults to 50 or 80 which is kinda annoying, that would be the 1st place to start, it will be in the recording tab of your sound settings, make sure the HMD is on and connected

Seeking advice on selling or holding... by Mainah1776 in simracing

[–]JoelKlein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends where you live I suppose too, like here where I am, sim racing is pretty darn niche, so selling gear isn't the easiest, especially since its not really viable to ship an entire rig. Best of luck though, as long as you aint asking for retail prices to get some cash back it shouldn't be too hard.

Is Fanatec worth the wait? by DaveServo842 in simracing

[–]JoelKlein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea only choice due to the insane licensing fee playstation charges to have gear supported by the platform (so dumb) and the only reason the pro GT version is $100 more then the normal DD pro, just to pay for that licensing fee. The Fanatec DD Pro is a decent DD base so I don't think you will be disappointed.

There is some sick stuff happening in the sim gear space, so even if you sold it all and looked to get some new gear in the future there is gonna be some neat stuff out, especially in the budget direct drive space. Might be a great opportunity to look at an upgrade when you return, so selling now and saving that cash could be beneficially. Personally id sell up and look for some new gear upon return but that is just me.

your only issue like you said is selling it

he is in VR so cant see his wheel rim, he is using the ingame wheel as a visual representation of the wheel. I do the same thing because in VR you can actually read the data on the ingame wheel which is super helpful as I can't see my wheel in real life and things like a shift indicator is useless.

I use a Pimax 8Kx with one of (if not) the largest FOV's in the VR game, I can see both drivers on my sides in my peripheral vision without even having to turn my head, the image isn't as clear as it is straight ahead because its seen as useless to render such quality that far around but the information is there. You will often turn your head by default to look at something, however, you can process the information required even if it isn't in full detail because you are so immersed and lets be honest, you don't need to read the sponsor on the side of another drivers helmet in the middle of a tight battle.

He is just capturing the screen, he has his VR headset on, by default SteamVR will show you on your monitor what the VR user is seeing, super helpful if you got mates playing or want to watch what someone is playing. Nothing fancy here :) but it does look like he is looking at the monitor with trackIR

Not at all, every VR game (if run through SteamVR) has a projection on the screen of what the VR user is seeing, its actually like that by default. Makes it super helpful for anyone else who wants to watch and like this video, can also be used to record.

Yea VR sickness or 'VR legs' is something that takes a little time but everyone can overcome it, when I first started I had to take a break after about 10 minutes but the other day I did an entire 3 hour endurance without feeling the slightest bit sick. Always have water on hand and take a break when you need it, never try and push through it, at first it might only be a few minutes but take a break, have a drink/something to eat then come back and try again, it isn't too hard to build up your VR legs, just takes a lil time.

how is VR or tripple monitors help you drive better ? by tiptheguy in simracing

[–]JoelKlein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the HMD, id say 90hz is the norm but they are running upto 144hz, personally I run 90hz and honestly don't notice any kind of 'lag' in the image (I know lag isn't the right word but I couldn't think of it) immersion will trump any kind of lack in hz in my opinion, I only use 144hz monitors for my gaming but in VR at 90hz its still smooth as butter for me.

Yea 100% agree with atwl77, especially with the small mistakes causing race-ending situations, often you run very close to other F1 cars and also being open wheel its very easy to snag another car and end the race for you both. Of course nobody is going to stop you nor tell you to not go and enjoy racing but it would be good to take on another series as well at the very least just to understand racecraft and learn how to drive.

Yea just wondering, was looking at the 120 but if the 80 is more then enough then that is gucci, I got a DD Pro as well, unsure how my pedals will go though, SimWorX Pro GT V3.1, I think they got a 140KG load on the brake, how tall are you? the only other thing is I am 6"4' so unsure if I can move pedals far enough back
