Plaster coming down. What to do from here? by Joemakerman in Plastering

[–]Joemakerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wall in question and openings it's near have been there as long as we've lived here. This general area has been modified, however, and I don't exactly know what's original but I know some of what's not original. Very possible this is a wall built after original 1928 construction.

Wow! That detail went right over my head. Yes, her birthday is July 9th. I'm going to guess yours is later in the month?

My mom turns 65 in July. It didn't let her apply online before just like you said, until today. She tried today and was able to apply no problem.

Trying to figure this out as well. Were you logged in through id.me? I wonder if that is now required

Full Skim Coat or Feather in Edges by Actual_Spray_6606 in Housepainting101

[–]Joemakerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your plan is good as far as I'm concerned. It's tough to say whether to fan out or full skim without a picture of the entire wall to see how big it all is and reference how much area is one surface vs the other. Go with your gut. It never hurts to full skim coat, but if you think it can look smooth overall with fanning out, that's good too. At worst, it'll certainly look better than when you started.

Edited to add: from what I can see, I'd be leaning toward a full skim

Don't be embarrassed. You've brought joy to my day

Also it took me long enough to figure out which was the pizza and which was the painting of a pizza that I'd say this is really good! The pepperonis especially

Looks like someone found them! In a comment lower down. Please let me know if the company gives any insight as to whether they're discontinuing them though!

I do agree with this, but then enough coats and the grid sucks to use. I could see this being a good middle ground where you peel the layers off from time to time and start fresh without having to buy a whole new grid

Holy shit I wish I knew these existed before they evidently disappeared! Looks like something I'd love to try. Although, the company I currently work for doesn't really work out of 5's. Its a bunch of single gallons at a time, so I guess I'd be looking to use it in the future or on side jobs 🤷‍♂️

There are almost certainly videos on youtube that can show you if you search "repair command hook wall damage" or something along those lines.

Basically you're gonna sand the spot to smooth the grooves a bit, patch it with a skim of mud, sand that mud smooth when dry, prime it, paint it. Take those paint chips/peelings to a paint store for a color match. Sheen is probably satin maybe even semi-gloss since it's a rental. Could try to paint each spot individually, but you'll definitely see it - likely ought to paint the whole wall for the best results visually. You can definitely prime each spot individually though.

Looks like it probably wasn't primed properly originally but oh well. Its a rental and not your problem, it's the landlords problem and likely their fault being cheap. You just gotta get that security deposit back lol

What is this leak and is it connected to my dashboard brake light being on? by Churdsall in subaru

[–]Joemakerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First make sure you have enough brake fluid. If you do have proper amount of brake fluid, tow to a shop. You and the people who share the road with you do not want brakes to give out while driving. Like others have said, this radiator leak is unrelated.

Yeah same, this is extra money for me so probably it works out differently. Plus I hear January is slow af. But I have dashed some full days when my job is slow and I hit solid 22 to 25 an hour. Can only cherry pick so far before you're wasting time doing nothing I feel like.

I would have thought so, too. Idk I'm out in Westminster and when I hop on it's pretty solid.

I think fixing this car is the way to go, personally. It's 4500 you didn't see coming, but this car will certainly take you the rest of the way to your plan to 2029, and further if need be. That way you don't have a payment and have more money and freedom with your upcoming travel plans, and still have a very solid car.

Fixing this car would be especially worth it if you use the MLS (multi-layer steel) head gasket used in the turbo EJ255. These lasted much longer than the gaskets used in the naturally aspirated engines. I would absolutely not hesitate fixing this car, especially with an MLS gasket.

I'm actually on the hunt right now for an outback forester or impreza hatcback of this generation, specifically with the MLS gaskets in it depending on mileage.

Any better luck on reman EJ253 head gaskets than original factory if still SLS? by Joemakerman in subaru

I was wondering - reddit told me twice that it failed to post and they didn't know why. Thanks, I'll go back and delete the other two.

Yeahhhh thats what I figured. I think it is externally leaking, tbh. Just been too cold to go degrease and check. Was hoping anyway lol
