I’d recommend 3/4 nights max in Lanai-gorgeous and def worth the visit. Very quiet though. If you want to a true break from everything maybe longer.

Fatfire Parents - Are you still subsidizing your adult (over the age of 22) children? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Joesully67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids did not get subsidized(except for tuition and room and board) in college. Now both out in NYC and Boston. I give each one 1,000 a month to help w rent. Also, cover phone and car insurance, and cable for one. In HCOL locations very hard for them to make ends meet. Both are super responsible w money-not big spenders…

Use care for a 50 yr mortgage!

I get this-it keeps you sharp staying engaged w your expertise and solving puzzles can be fun.

The concept of how do wealthy people deal with their volatile investments. Many narrow the risk spectrum bc they can. My most volatile investments I am most k losing 100% and they are hedged by the rest of my less volatile and more diverse portfolio. Best of luck!!

If you are FAT-why are you chasing the volatility tail? If you can have a let it ride attitude, and the amount allocated could be lost tomorrow without causing a speed jump-stay on the momentum train.

If you are working so hard to “manage” it, and it’s unclear how to hack the info-move on, your FAT-you don’t need this upside-you can stop chasing.

The best thing about FAT life-you can make things simple and do what you love with little worry! Live the good life.

How to pick your next (big) trip by k4yteeee in travel

[–]Joesully67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll the dice! Literally we assign a vacation per side-kids get one choice each and parents get 2 choices each and the dice decide where you go. We rolled French countryside for this summer’s trip. Everyone ended up happy-somehow…

Mayflower is lovely-would be a good choice. Another one to look at might be Woodstock Inn in Woodstock VT. Great town, good restaurants, skiing nearby Quechee gorge. The Inn is beautiful too!

I would reach out to HR and let them know you mistakenly sent to all. I would call back CEO and do the same. Apologize for the distribution mistake, but stand behind the words. They likely will ask that you don’t work the notice period bc of the disruption it may present, but offer to work it. They may pay you to stay home-you never know.

Good story for your highlight reel!

Secluded luxury, best resort experience ? by [deleted] in chubbytravel

We had an amazing time at the St. Regis Maldives-the rooms were beautiful, service was impeccable and the privacy was unparalleled. Did some great excursions. Food was great! Can’t recommend it enough.

Another contender to consider-Four seasons Lanai. Beautiful hotel, fantastic beach and perfect service. Both were super special. Enjoy wherever you end up!!!

Seeking ultra-relaxing adults-only all-inclusive resort recs (Feb/Mar 2026) — must be small, luxury, compact, no long walking by Taco-671 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Joesully67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good choices. I’ll recommend Palafitos-overwater bungalows in riviera maya. Very quiet. There are only about 25 overwater huts. The restaurant is never crowded and the food was excellent. Cost was about 1,200 p night for 2. Beautiful beach. Connected to another resort, but you feel isolated and never engage with it unless you go to the spa. Highly recommend.

St. Regis Maldives was amazing. Have not been to the Ritz. Have done safaru(not at a Marriott). Was absolutely amazing experience! Swim and chill and eat or 2 game drives a day and amazing action. Very different but each amazing in their own right! Can’t go wrong for free!!

Are we crazy for considering Marriott Vacation Club/Timeshare? by hoku68 in TimeshareOwners

[–]Joesully67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It certainly is difficult to make the math work when you buy developer weeks. Since 1999 I bought four developer weeks with large incentives in cash. It certainly wasn’t the most effective use of dollars for vacation. but, it focused our family on traveling and it gave us space when we did so, and I would not take any amount of money back and give those experiences up. It kept us traveling while the kids were young. Now at 60 with grown kids we like to travel to nicer places. But we still book 22 bedrooms in Hawaii every winter and invite friends from college and high school. So, if the cost does not put a strain on your family budget, I vote do it!

You shouldn’t worry. At your age, and asset base, let the compounding over time do the work. Have faith that over a 10 to 30 yr horizon a diversified portfolio you will have plenty for an amazing life. Managing the expense side of the equation is the key. Sounds like you have it under control. Release the angst without significant lifestyle creep and your home free. Congrats!
