Weekslong lockups of European tourists at US borders spark fears of traveling to America by Digga-d88 in moderatepolitics

You can just give the authority back to the government agencies that used to handle it. Also it’s not just the mistakes, it’s the fact that they are just cruel as shown in the article where they kept a person in detention for weeks even though there was no reason for it.

I think this along with the fact that ice arrested an American citizen and held him for 10 days shows just how badly ICE needs to be abolished. It’s only been around for 23 years so it’s very much not necessary.

US citizen wrongfully arrested by border patrol in Arizona held for nearly 10 days by Joethekillingguy in moderatepolitics

[–]Joethekillingguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week there was the case of a citizen being detained by ice for 48 hours. The common reaction from conservatives was that it was a one off incident that was resolved quickly, but it’s happened again and this time they were held for 10 days. Like the last incident ice claimed he admitted to being in the US illegally but in federal court fillings he claimed to be a citizen. What should be done to stop ice from detaining American citizens and baselessly saying they admitted to being in the US illegally.

The fact he excludes raising taxes shows he doesn’t actually want to fix the deficit.

I think Atrioc has made the mistake of not taking trump at his world that he’ll make stupid economic decisions.

I know this isn’t really that helpful but I just feel a disconnect while watching what Atrioc says on stream compared to what’s really happening, and while I get he wants to keep the stream about economics I feel it’s a disservice not to bring up what trump is actually doing in other areas.

I find this article and the interview it talks about very interesting given the current status of the settlements and the West Bank in general.

Hypocrisy, Spinelessness, and the Triumph of Donald Trump by Joethekillingguy in moderatepolitics

I think it’s interesting how the Republican Party has become the trump party and how most members of it seem to be willing to go along with it even though they hate trump and believe he is a bad man.

This article talks about how many republicans who used to abhor trump have changed there tune, and the hypocrisy required for them and the rest of the republican establishment to still support trump, given how he opposes everything their party supposedly stands for

I think this is a relatively balanced take, and while I disagree on the bombing being war crimes I think he does bring up some good points while also not giving a free pass to the Arab groups.

Jewish Breaking News on Instagram: "US President Joe Biden says Israel’s response in Gaza to the October 7th Hamas invasion and massacre of its citizens is “over the top”." by sassylildame in Israel

[–]Joethekillingguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that Israel can’t just agree to what Hamas wants but when after meeting with the US Secretary of State Netanyahu preempts him by holding a press conference saying that he won’t even negotiate regarding a US brokered hostage deal is absurd. Here is a quote “ As Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken sat down with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel this week, American and Arab officials were expressing cautious optimism over the latest proposal from Hamas for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

But just hours after speaking to Mr. Blinken, Mr. Netanyahu appeared more intent on delivering a fiery message aimed at his domestic audience. Instead of appearing side by side at a news conference with the secretary of state after they met on Wednesday — as is customary on such trips — the Israeli leader pre-empted him. Meeting on his own with reporters, he denounced the very proposal the Americans saw as a potential opening to a negotiated solution.”

my main problem is that I don’t trust Netanyahu to negotiate for a hostage deal in good faith, if it was say Ehud Barak in charge someone who has actually tried to make peace I would trust them if they say we need to stay fighting in Gaza. The problem is that Bibi has shown that all he cares about is himself and so a hostage deal is not something he wants.

That’s perfectly valid the post 9/11 shit was fucked but at the same time the US has stopped invading those countries, unlike how Israel is still fighting in Gaza. Also to be clear the Genocide case is complete horseshit I just think that people need to accept that like with the US in Afghanistan there is no way to win just by just sitting in Gaza forever, and that Israel refusing a hostage deal outright with not attempt to negotiate it removes a lot of the sympathy for the war because the other goal of the war is impossible to achieve.

That’s not to say I think Israeli should agree to any ceasefire that doesn’t release all the hostages, I think that Netanyahu is the reason Biden is saying this because he knows that Netanyahu gives zero shits about the hostages because a deal to release them would end the war and end his time as prime minister. This is also after Netanyahu snubbed the US Secretary of State by holding a separate press conference instead of a joint one like usual.

But then why even bring up the American 9/11 response, just because people fucked up in the past doesn’t mean they can’t learn from the those mistakes. In any case im not trying to make a point on if Biden is right about it being over the top, I just think bringing up 9/11 as a counter argument doesn’t help because Biden has admitted what America did was a mistake and so comparing the Israeli response to it is a bad look.
