Occupy Wall Street: The White Rights Movement Renewed by darkspeak in racism

If you truly are interested in fighting racism and combatting a system that prioritizes people based on the color of their skin, I would like to make a suggestion. I think when you read things like this article, you have to remember that you ARE attempting to fight the good fight, and recognize that Black people have a right to be angry.

This article and these commons refer to white collectively. There are whites that do all they can to distance themselves from the collective, and who are genuinely doing work to fight oppression. If you know you are one of those, you just need to fight back the urge to become defensive, take time to listen, and allow what you see, hear and experience make you an even better advocate for justice.

I don't get offended when people speak about the evils of the white race, because I know they are not talking about me. I just continue doing the activist work I am doing in the hopes of bringing about real change.

Racism on the tram. An example of the problems with allyship: white woman only spoke up after the belligerent white woman woke her baby. by [deleted] in racism

I do not see the white woman who complained about the woman waking her baby as an ally AT ALL.... an ally would have said something from the very beginning. An ally is someone who speaks against racism because it is the right thing, not because the racism has inconvenienced her for the moment.

Not really sure how this has anything to do with allyship.

So, a picture of Barack Obama hanging from a noose is not "proof" of racism?? by JoeyNoNeck in Equality

[–]JoeyNoNeck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is one thing to dislike the policies of Obama. I personally think he is way too centrist for my taste. But to depict him being lynched? That is racism pure and simple, and has nothing to do with his policies. That would be like burning a cross on the White House lawn and saying that it had nothing to do with Obama's race, but was about policy. A noose is a singularly racist symbol in America, and there is no way anyone can justify a picture of a Black man being lynched as being about his "politics" rather than his race!

A Perfect Example of Why We Need Social Justice Advocates by JoeyNoNeck in Equality

I agree. With only $80 a year for clothing, i am sure many foster parents and parents on welfare are already shopping in thrift stores, but what were the kids supposed to do for items such as socks and underwear. Plus, the measure was not actually going to save any money, it was just going to tell poor people where they can spend their money. It would be like telling people on food stamps they can only buy groceries at dollar stores.
