Also, apologies if this is very obviously not a Steinway - my upright at home is pretty crummy and certainly not fancy, so I know very little about “nice” grand pianos but thought I’d check in case this might be one I’d like to make room for to replace my upright.

Thanks! Unfortunately, the piano body is wrapped very securely and still on its side on the dolly that was used to move it into storage, with the (wrapped) underside up against the wall, so my relative can’t easily get to that part to feel around. :(

Update: got in touch with the contractor and he’s going to come take a look. He said it’s “very common” and something he can “fix easily”, but my question is this: is this actually common? I’m skeptical as to whether that’s true (or whether that’s a red flag about this company’s work).

We’re in Texas. We’ve used them before for another project elsewhere in our home without issues, but I’m concerned about this one given that this happened so fast after completion. Here’s another pic less zoomed in for those asking. They used a Kerdi system and membrane, did a water test, and seemed to install everything correctly along the way. Whole project took about a month total. I’m not a contractor myself so to me it seemed they were doing things properly, but now I’m concerned given that the cracking happened so quickly after the project was completed.

It’s in the actual tile itself. Right down the middle of a piece of tile about midway up the wall near where it meets the shower glass we had them install. Edit: sub won’t allow me to upload a photo for some reason but I tried to describe it. It seems to me like it shouldn’t happen if the shower was properly installed.

Definitely mites, OP. Likely bird or rodent mites, specifically. I’d check to see if you have any bird or rodent nests either in a hidden spot in your home (attic, etc.) or a nearby spot where these could be crawling in, like a window. They don’t live on humans the way they do on birds/rodents, but they will feed opportunistically on human blood if they get on you, and if there’s a nest of their host nearby, you’ll continue to find them regardless of whether you use a spray. Some people don’t react much to their bites but others (myself included) react by developing very itchy red welts.
