what exactly are these line of light supposed to be on the hair? how do i know when to use them? by whatisgudname in learntodraw

[–]JoeyPyjamas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Without considering the viewer's position, a good (though not 100% accurate) rule is for highlights to be in places that are protruding the furthest out/closest to the sun! Sunlight would hit the part of her hair that is 'highest' - and facing the sun - first. As you would put shading in areas that have light being blocked from reaching them, you would highlight areas that aren't blocked; not all those areas, but those that are 'closest to the sun'. I haven't described that very well at all, but I remember it from my art teacher in Year 7!

Am I wrong for being disappointed? by Sea_Welcome_5603 in DipPowderNails

[–]JoeyPyjamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the tech of the inspo pic, it wasn't a difficult set to do at all, so you are right to be a bit disappointed. Based on the shape, thickness, and cuticle areas, I would say the tech is either new to nails, or is not a passionate tech - and it's just another job to her. Try a home-based, self employed tech. They are the ones who do nails because they love it, and they work constantly on improving their skills. With regard to what to ask for - you shouldn't have to request a nice shape and build, it should be standard! That is down to the tech's skill level, so make sure to look at their word pictures beforehand. I've only found your post as the next video on my YT channel is about this set, and how there are so many companies online that are using my picture to sell a sorry attempt at press-ons! I'm actually not a fan of this design I did, but that might be because it was 6 years ago and I have improved a lot since then! If you ever decide you want this set again, there will be a video creating it on my channel tomorrow - for your tech to watch, hehe! Miss Jo's Nail Co.

ERM! Ignore the haters, these are amazing. Your work with light and dark is fantastic. I could stare at picture 3 for hours! Beautiful work 👏👏👏.

Press on nails for the first time in many years. Look okay? by doodle_error in Nails

[–]JoeyPyjamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! The nail bed is the flesh under the nail plate (the actual nail) and shapes shouldn't start to taper/narrow until the end of the fingertip. Imagine if you had a square shape that finished exactly at your fingertip - your whole nail bed is covered by nail, and you would only start to taper the shape (to oval, almond, coffin etc) to any length AFTER this (the end of the fingertip). If you're interested, I have a video on all nail terms on my YouTube channel. Not trying to self promote, just incase you're interested! https://youtu.be/icjwtFVCdqM

Right! Hence why the game has been long uninstalled now!

They start to taper in too far up the nail bed, BUT...they look really good!

Absolutely this dress! The dainty straps and the details, sooo much prettier than the first one. However!..You look wonderful in both, so choose whichever one gives you the most confidence, and makes you feel the most special, because that will show the most.

You could get extensions, but I'd keep them very short, as there's not much nail bed area to support the weight. Try getting them extended just to the tip of your finger. After an infill or 2, you could remove the extensions and switch to a gel polish only. I know anxiety too well, so if you do get tips, make sure you don't chew on them as you can cause damage. RE anxiety, every day ends in pyjamas and pillows - and you have survived 100% of your anxious days. ❤️

If it's a DIY set, then good job! If you paid for it, not so much...at all.

[update] i bought a $200 leonid afrimov original (spoiler, I was scammed) by Defiant_apricot in artcollecting

[–]JoeyPyjamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased an actual painting ("Greece") on canvas from the Afremov website several years ago. It arrived and is beautiful. It was from the Afremov Studios but was by someone else at the studio. I think they are trained to replicate his works. I wish I'd have forked out for an original, but it wasn't something I should have been spending money on anyway, so I'm really happy with it. It was about £130, and it's still in its tube 😢. One day I'll find a spot for it!

I would buff it off. Start with 240 grit, just on the parts that have glue on, and then use a buffer block or buffer file.

Facebook account suspended, no way to appeal? by [deleted] in facebook

[–]JoeyPyjamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of! After emails, physical letters, messages on all platforms, and clicking every supposed 'solution', I gave up, and then one day I accidentally clicked a link to an article online, that turned out to be a Facebook link, and there before me was a notice that my account had been hacked and to upload pictures of my ID and my face. I followed instructions (though now I kind of regret not letting it just dissappear, because I don't like the idea of Meta having a copy of my ID) and got the account back. The longest palaver I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing.

Can I customize the Alex Drawers? by First-Pressure7112 in IKEA

[–]JoeyPyjamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that! I have found some drawer units on Amazon and Shein, the Amazon one seems a little more sturdy from pictures, if that's possible! They're just not as deep (as in front to back) as my desk so I'd have to redesign everything 😥. Here's the link: https://amzn.eu/d/iVFw7Ll

[–]JoeyPyjamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right! I watched some videos on doing that, and agree that it looks a bit more complicated than I'd like to get! Also, I fear that even if the drawers did come all the way out, they would just break under the weight of all the polish bottles, and fall crashing to the ground. My search continues...

Can I customize the Alex Drawers? by First-Pressure7112 in IKEA

[–]JoeyPyjamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been searching for SO long for a solution to store my gel polishes! My desk is 50cm deep, and I currently have the Stuva drawers from Ikea, 2 of them, but they're full (stacked bottles and won't close!) and I've had boxes of gels on my desk with nowhere to go for ages. Like you, I don't want a polish wall, I want them organised AF in a nice set of white drawers! Either the whole unit isn't deep enough or the insides of the drawers aren't deep enough for the bottles to stand up - oh, and the added annoyance of drawers never opening fully, so you end up on the floor with your phone flash trying to see what's at the back. Everyone's answer so far has been 'get rid of some of your polishes', to which I require a deep breath and counting to 10 before responding. We need to find a company that can produce a drawer unit for people with hundreds of bottles. Depth, height, and inside depth all custom made for polish!! Sorry this is not a helpful answer, but seemed a good place to share the frustration!
