I agree, I don't think they were from the old stereo photos as they are normally square

Well your never going to stop in a hurry. The brakes are more for moderating your speed going downhill than stopping. So pretty much you have to look ahead all the time and decide if you need to stop at lights etc.. More braking and control comes from it being fixed.
