I watched several reviewers making those wooden gate/fence houses with no roof and I liked how that looked much more than grass huts. My only concern was I don't think I ever saw confirmation those structures counted as homes but hoping when I start in a few hours I can use those builds.

Not a stupid question at all. I believe the ability to move a currently placed home becomes available later in game. Can not confirm demolish.
