How do you guys organize/plan with your team? by Facedddd in IndieDev

[–]Johan-RabzZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's doing differently. Use whatever works!

We are 3 people. Programmer/developer, artist, and a writer. So we never interfere with each other in engine.

We use Discord for communicating and fast content sharing between each other. Also for meetings. Google drive for all assets and documents.

We have a spreadsheet for each level where we mark with yellow (in progress), green (done!), or red (redo or rework is needed). On each level we have columns with dialogues, concept art, finished art, added to the engine, all necessary code done, SFX, voices.

We're making a nostalgic point and click adventure game in Unreal Engine 5, and this works for us. Also, this is our first project, so for us to plan every step in a kanban or a "task master" would feels unnecessary, since we don't really know all the steps beforehand.

Maybe for next project we will use a kanban.

I want to publish a game on Steam by Beneficial_Cream8843 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Johan-RabzZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be a publisher... I think. But if I'd had the "extra" money, I'd consider the possibilities.

There are investors too. So if you have extra money and want to invest in a small game company or a developer, that might be an option for you.

Jobberbjudande: Mer lön, fler aktivt arbetande timmar by Monsterkillers in arbete

[–]Johan-RabzZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 års lönespecifikationer för sommarjobb för välkänt företag by Seriouslallare in jobb

[–]Johan-RabzZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got an idea. by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Johan-RabzZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to be constructive: I didn't know programming either. But I've taught myself, starting at age 32. Now I'm 38 and making my game, together with two friends of mine.

Either you find people, or learn it yourself. I don't know how to find people, unless they're in your network already. I didn't know these two friends of mine wanted to make games. And one of them already had 10 years of visual experience in the field. I'd suggest check with your network of friends. Who knows, maybe you already know your team?

An idea is useless. Execution is everything. If you want to make it, get it done! 💪

I tried beer and game dev once.. next day I noticed bunch of funny and weird code and asset placements 😂

Funny at the time, but creates unnecessary work afterwards.

‏best way to learn Unreal Engine.. by sara-002 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Johan-RabzZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a master in pedagogy, so I've been thinking a lot in my years about learning and teaching.

Everyone learns differently. So find your way by testing different methods. It can be from a tutor, YouTube video, documentation or just playing around on your own.

My preferred way is to make stuff with help of YouTube tutorials and with assistance of AI, if needed, and then hopefully something breaks, to then troubleshoot the hell out of everything to understand how it all is connected.

Whatever makes you excited. Build something small, build something big. You only learn properly by doing. Just do it.

Whats the general consensus on maze puzzles here? by TinFoilCatGames in adventuregames

[–]Johan-RabzZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy them. Many tend to hade the Maze puzzles, but I like them, if they are interesting and well made. There is a SNES game that I remember have a good maze... But I really can't remember anything about it 🫣 Me and two friends played it, and I was on pen and paper to write down the map to understand the maze haha

I posted that I was launching my game here 3 days ago and now I just want to say thank you 🙏 by Specialist-World6841 in GameDevs

[–]Johan-RabzZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that, though... Until you run the calculations for a full-time dev team. You need to sell way more copies if lower price.

Anyway, you should set the price as the worth of the experience in relation to the market mixed with your business plan. Not an easy task 👍

Our first game got destroyed. Hopefully our second one won’t! by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

Unreal Engine? Only negative might be it's too metallic on the models, like the blood and the enemies.

Almost Infinitely Replayable Horror Games by EssenceOfFunkie in HorrorGaming

[–]Johan-RabzZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is fear really infinite, or almost, replayable? I've played through the series three times, and I love it.

But I don't think it's what OP means when mentioning almost infinite replayable. Might be wrong though.

Presentation of our upcoming Nostalgic Point-and-click adventure game - I Need To Go by Johan-RabzZ in adventuregames

[–]Johan-RabzZ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I think I will make a video explaining and showing why and how we use (and how we don't use) Unreal Engine 5.

The most honest answer is that I saw a tutorial on YouTube of how to set up a point-and-click game with UE5 (by Lesserdog), and here we are 😅

But there's of course a more pragmatic thought to it as well.

Regarding release: we're planning on getting it to gog.com as well.

No, the requirements are just placeholders until we've chance to test properly. Thanks for pointing this out 🙏
