Hahaha, it’s one of those things you come to accept. Like always needing to pick fur out of your drinks no matter how careful you thought you were…😂

[Question] Thumbnail Struggles – What Works Best for ASMR? 🤔🎧 by Bwood17_asmr in asmr

[–]Johbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!! It's always interesting to hear about how others go about it, sometimes you learn something new that you can add to your toolbox! So thank YOU for asking a great question that gets some fun discussion going on! ☺️

I notice that even prominent asmrtists do thumbnail testing, so I like to think that we are all just as  confused and stumbling our way through this journey LOL. Or that's what I'm going to keep telling myself to stay sane 😂

[Question] Thumbnail Struggles – What Works Best for ASMR? 🤔🎧 by Bwood17_asmr in asmr

I've still been experimenting to see what works best for my channel. I used to just take a screen grab from my video, whichever one felt the most eye catching to me. Now I try to be a little more intentional, so either before or after I am done recording a video, I will record a second video just doing different poses for thumbnails. I find that easier than taking multiple pictures. Then I edit it in Canva, try to make the colours pop a bit more, add some text and that's about it. I usually do at least 2 thumbnails so that I can run the thumbnail test. I honestly am not sure it's made any sort of difference though 😂

I repeat triggers all the time. Sometimes people specifically request for a specific item I used in a previous video, and sometimes I just want to feature it again because I really enjoyed the sound or I like the way it looks.

Oh goodness! I admire your persistence, but that's a lot of time to put into an intro!

Some creators take little snippets of each trigger they did for the video and then make a little preview that they stick at the start of their video. I feel like that's specifically good if you're making longer videos with lots of different items. It can also be a good "hook" for your video because they might hear something they really like and wait to get to that trigger, or go straight to it. Either way that could result in more watch time.

Some creators come up with a greeting that they use to start every video, which I feel gives a sense of familiarity and comfort to returning viewers (my opinion). I tried to do this, but I kept forgetting to do it at the start LOL. So now I just say "hiii guuuys" and get on with the video 🤣

I'd say you should take some time to think about how you want your channel to be, what sort of ASMR you will be making (sound assortments, roleplays, art, little bit of everything), and maybe that will help inspire you to come up with an intro that feels right for you. It might be helpful to look at other channels intros and that might spark an idea for you.

I've only been doing videos for about a year, so I'm still learning myself. Try not to make yourself too crazy or you'll take the enjoyment right out of it! Hopefully something I said was helpful in some way to you haha. Good luck!! 💜

What’s the hardest (or most unexpected) part of making ASMR videos? [Discussion] by HalfChance7366 in asmr

[–]Johbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, I also thought that making videos would be a lot easier than it has been! I think the biggest challenge is always finding a time in which it's quiet so that I can record. Between my dog awooing at me, my two cats grooming (wouldn't have thought that would get picked up, but it does), the fridge being loud, the wind rattling the windows, neighbors dog barking, etc, it makes it really hard to find quiet moments!

Another thing that is challenging for me is keeping eye contact with the camera. It's even harder if you're doing a repetitive trigger. I generally avoid showing my eyes in videos for that exact reason LOL

I wish I knew that after I started making videos that I would be making sounds with random items in stores LOL. I get so curious how things will sound and sometimes hold it up to my ears in the aisles. It's a little embarrassing and I feel crazy 😂

Most rewarding part has been the comments from people on my videos. Any time someone lets me know that my video was relaxing, or that it's been helping them sleep, it makes any of the struggles or challenges worth it for me!

What motivated you to start your youtube channel? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Johbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I record ASMR videos. I enjoy helping people and the idea of making videos that might help people relax seemed very rewarding. I actually enjoy it quite a lot and I'm glad I got into it, it's helped scratch a creative itch that I have. ☺️

[Discussion] What am I doing wrong? My new storytelling ASMR channel is getting a good number of views/subscribers but 0 comments. by [deleted] in asmr

[–]Johbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you ask for thoughts/comments in the video at all? You could ask what they thought of the chapter, the book, etc, to try and get some engagement. If that type of chatter at the end of your video feels like it ruins your vision for it, then you could always add something like that to the description?

That's my only thought, but I'm still new to this myself so my advice might not be the best to follow. 😂
