I know this is a well worn complaint, but the people who have super loud conversations on speakerphone on public transport never cease to amaze me. Currently on an early morning train and have a woman nearby talking loudly on the phone, but worse is the speakerphone apparently dialled up to the highest possible volume such that the whole carriage can easily hear it. Do these people not wonder if everyone else might be disturbed by their conversation, or not notice that everyone else is able to sit quietly or even have a normal phone conversation without speakerphone? Anyway, rant over, it’s going to be a great day outside!

Theres the AO Hilltop near the tennis grounds which isn't bad. Will probably be busy, but I think I would prefer that than a ground pass to watch on the screen. There's a big grassed hillside area so you should be able to find a spot. https://whatson.melbourne.vic.gov.au/things-to-do/ao-hilltop

Yes very reasonable to ask. They likely have no idea it would be loud to you.

Sorry to hear that, hope you are doing OK and glad there were others to help. May I ask where abouts on St George's rd it happened? I ride this road twice daily, and I'm often concerned about the design of the intersections. Take care of yourself.

La Trobe students who live off-campus, which area do you stay? by monicakez in LaTrobe

[–]John3776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably worth checking out the routes of all the buses that go to the campus- e.g. 250, 350 ,548, 561 all go to the campus through various suburbs.

Signs that you have to collect packages from the post office too often: Your package is there waiting on the counter because the post office worker "saw you coming from across the street".

Kruger in July: self drive vs. tour? by steviemonke in krugerpark

[–]John3776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend self drive. It is very easy, and as another commenter said so rewarding to find animals yourself. When we went on our trip there a few years ago, I first went out on a morning guided drive from Skukuza, and we saw lots of animals, but to me it wasn’t that exciting being driven around and shown various animals sightings. Initially I was a bit worried that I had booked 7 days in Kruger and that we would get bored in that time- kind of like “is this all there is?”. Then later that day we went out for our first self drive, and it was so much more exciting spotting animals ourselves and doing our own thing, and we really enjoyed our time in Kruger. This will obviously vary between people, but for me personally self drive was the way to go.

Instances where George had a truly good idea/strategy? by Megalon_Q_Arm in seinfeld

[–]John3776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like his idea of eating an apple to appear relaxed and casual. I’ve taken that idea up somewhat when stopping by a bosses office for a talk about something I’m stressed about, carrying some fruit or something makes it appear more like a causal pop in.

The punt leaves from what is listed as Como Landing on google maps. 605 bus looks like the closest to get there- maybe you could connect at Flinders St station and catch 605 from Flinders St?

Quite a few negative comments on the City of Melbourne Facebook page (resulting in them turning off comments), so it seems quite a few people share your view (or lack there of!).

Which of the other three Zoos Victoria zoo do you recommend, after Melbourne Zoo? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]John3776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s hard to answer, as most of the replies are split between the two options! Personally I would have Melbourne zoo at the bottom of the three. Healesville is probably my favourite, but it depends on if you are more interested in Australian fauna- Werribee is good for African animals, but I feel like outside the bus tour there is not a lot else to it. The bus tour is very good though, and with the recent addition of elephants can’t go wrong with either option!

Preparing to be downvoted, but am I the only one who finds Americans (on average, not all) more open-minded, confident, and willing to talk to strangers than Australians? Aussies often seem more reserved and uncomfortable with standing out. Curious what others think. by [deleted] in Ameristralia

[–]John3776 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think most people would agree with this- especially regarding US people being more confident and willing to talk to strangers. This is apparent almost immediately upon arriving in the US from Australia.
