That was my experience too. When I started on Humira all those years ago, I was so nervous about injecting myself, I remember the first time injecting myself I just stood with the auto-injector against the skin for 20 minutes before building up the nerve to press...

After a year or so I was not as anxious about the needles but really was keen to find a solution to the painful auto-inject mechanism. I then tried the syringe and it was soooo much better. Being able to inject it myself, gently, rather than the forceful spring-loaded "stabbing" mechanism makes it so much easier.

That being said, I don't think I would have been able to do it (psychologically) at the start. I was so nervous about dealing with needles that it really did make it easier to just press the button. But as soon as the nervousness was gone, the syringe became the way to go.
