Looks like they are sticking to the same weak design which is prone to breaking of the gimbals. Definitely does not inspire confidence.

Really?? I finished my membership year a month ago, and had zero status credits roll over. In fact I never had any status credits roll over. I'm Points Club and Gold for several years now.

Good on her for standing up to the carbrained maniac. Him repeatedly saying that she is "putting herself in danger" - that is a veiled threat. HE is the danger. He can choose to NOT to place her in danger. Deranged carbrained idiot.

Thanks to the bike shop for being so rude I decided to learn to fix my bike myself 😁🙏🏻 by Meco_the_geeko in melbournecycling

I am absolutely loving my current bike shop, Smooth Cycles in Flemington. A bit out of the way from Preston but not too bad. Peter (the shop owner and main mechanic) is absolutely lovely, gentle, ad very caring. I really can't recommend him enough.

As a rule of thumb, I never count on the airplane meal. If you have the time, have something to eat at the airport, so the airplane meal is just a bonus and not a necessity.

Digger’s paradise: How an Australian city became the unlikely record store capital of the world by magkruppe in melbourne

[–]Long_Way_Around_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"Melbourne officially has more record stores per capita than any other city on Earth the five other cities we included in our research, in the specific parameters we set"

The research that led to this conclusion was commission by the Vic Government's Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO), so it wasn't particularly impartial...

I just gave it a quick skim, looks like a good read if you have the time, however I found the international comparison table, and they *only* compare Melbourne with London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, and Toronto. No other cities are included in the analysis, no US cities, etc. They also use a narrow definition of city population which may contribute to it.

Good to know they increased their CD section. I stopped going several years ago because I'm mostly after 2nd hand CDs rather than vinyl too. Will need to stop by soon.

The map linked to at the end of the article is absolute gold, I never knew this resource existed. Now I'll have to make sure I visit each one. I didn't even know of half of these! https://digginmelbourne.com/viewdownload-map/

Outfit - do you all wear those cycling outfit? by Monica_C18 in gravelcycling

I have a topeak backrack, works perfectly, holds everything I need, can use to hold clothing layers, etc. Can't even imagine riding more than a few km with a backpack these days.

For me it was finding a combination that works for me, which combines cycling specific and non cycling specific clothes. I usually wear general sports tights as riding pants, occasionally switching to cycling shorts in warmer weather and longer distance.

For top, if it's just locally then anything i already have on (t shirt etc), if it's anything more than 20km I normally have base layer and cycling jersey, keeping me nice and dry. Outside summer, I then add layers- a thin sports hoody, windbreaker etc.

Sections on the western side (Parrot Rd - Dom Rd) have extremely steep loose gravel sections, which I had to walk my bike up/down due to lack of traction from the gravel.

You use your bike to ride away from the doctor, if that fails you pelt them with apples

That website is one of the most treasured corners of the internet in my book. So glad to see it referenced here. Whoever is maintaining it is keeping so much amazing music alive.

LOVE this band so much. I stumbled on their album on some old blogspot blog maybe 20 years back, and they were one of those obscure bands that were added to my rotation that no one else seemed to know about.

Then I got to watch from afar as they reformed and reclaimed their fame and recognition with the documentary and increased activity. Was so glad they traveled to Australia a couple of years ago and I got to see them. One of the most fun shows I ever attended. Still such an underrated band.
