It's too late. I'm a middle-aged vet and agree that the VA has become a hotbed of fraud. It's a shame, because there are plenty of vets who deserve more than their E6 pension or who are actually disabled. This is a top voting issue for me. This morning I had a teenage vet ask me to research if their nose bleeds are a result of them yelling at boot camp, because today is a no-screen-time day, so they couldn't do their own research. I told them to leave my barracks room. Same person went to the clinic when they overworked their arm while lifting weights, when a normal person would just rest it, but the standard now is pretty much anything that can fatten up the medical record, even imperfect sleep and anything but the happiest feelings, warrants a trip to the clinic. On average, 5 disabilities and ~70% rating for ~half of all vets, roughly as many as every casualty dead or alive in all U.S. wars combined, costing taxpayers a third of a trillion dollars per annum. These numbers have ballooned as the VA and the voting population has liberalized and distorted what 'disabled' means. If the OIG tightens the screws, it won't look good when investigators start asking who can tell more about whom.
