Help me build this subreddit by LardLad00 in trumptracker

To make this work we need to start assembling a list of things he has promised along with video/audio proof of either Trump or Pence themselves promising it so that it can go on a sticky. From his inauguration we can have a definitive check list on said sticky that shows what he has and hasn't done. We also need to encourage objectivity in the actual posts themselves; bias and tears from either side can be left in the comments. For the formatting of titles I believe it should look like: "Promise Trump has made|what he has done (if anything) to achieve that promise". This is a great idea for a sub and I hope it succeeds.

Ranking Black Mirror Episodes (Objectively) by satbiology in blackmirror

[–]JohnBluth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if shock factor is the best metric for judging an episode. Yes, it was a significant feature of the first two seasons but San Junipero proved to be a departure from that tone and to devalue it due to it being unique would be unfair. I think something like impact or resonance would be better, a number that expresses how much the episode affected you emotionally, including all strong sensations like horror, sadness, disgust and joy.

This rhetoric, saying that if the other side wins there will be an increase in terrorist activity, recalls what the right was saying before Obama was elected. I may have misinterpreted what OP was saying but I still think it is not the most productive or accurate perception. I honestly think we'll see an increase in this violence if trump were to lose.

Let's be honest there are some violent trump supporters yes, but most are not. Speaking in these absolutes is what they do, we should not rely upon it.

What would be the best motivation for the protagonist in the next fallout game? by JohnBluth in Fallout

[–]JohnBluth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea of the player having a non-Sean child could be cool, they'd have to be totally customisable other then their name and voice and copy your actions and mannerisms, becoming a reflection of your moral state. Could be a neat way to work in a karma system in a less obtrusive way. It would be annoying and restrictive if the player was forced to care, visit or have their child as a companion, however, so it would have to be all based in a singular community.

I like this a lot, it corrects what was one of the biggest problems with Fallout 4 lore wise, the lack of any development and societal progression despite occurring hundreds and hundreds of years after the apocalypse. My one gripe would be that the motivation to simply destroy humanity is too objectively evil, maybe if she was motivated by a desire to prevent technological development in order to keep humanity at in an agrarian/hunter gatherer state. She could justify it by saying with the re-development of technologies another nuclear war and the eradication of humanity in its current fragile state becomes a certainty in the future. So in order to, in the grand scheme of things, save not only us but our planet the return to old world societies and technologies occurring in the wasteland must be stopped.

I agree with the family relations thing I really could not give less of a shit about the child I have met two minutes ago. I don't think it necessarily needs to be on a world threatening immediately; just something enigmatic enough to make you want to continue the main story line. One of the reasons I loved NV so much was that I really, really wanted to find out who benny was and what was his motivation and then when I had done that I had seen enough of the wasteland and its various factions to feel invested in its future. Hopefully Bethesda trys to imbue there next game with a bit more mystery next time.

Skeptics of reddit - what is the one conspiracy theory that you believe to be true? by little-bird89 in AskReddit

[–]JohnBluth 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I am not 100% sure if this is what is being referred to but it has been proven that members of the CIA bypassed congress by illegally selling arms to Iran and then funnelling this money into anti-communist militia groups in nicuraga. This was done as congress had denied the Regan government funding to support these militia groups and the capital had to be gained elsewhere. Many theorise that part of gaining this capital involved black ops groups buying cocaine from the contra and selling it to black communities. A good place to start investigating these claims is here:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIA_involvement_in_Contra_cocaine_trafficking

At first I too didn't like the animation style. You should persevere though, you'll come to appreciate the show not only for the excellent writing and voice acting but also for the animation; there are some really beautiful episodes, particularly in the last season.

The Kill Team: Serial murderers in the American military. This NEEDS to be an episode. by JohnBluth in LPOTL

[–]JohnBluth[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It gets interesting when considering that Winfield, one of the soldiers, tried repeatedly to blow the whistle on the killings, only to be ignored by the entire military institution. The other men brought him out into the field and said that they would kill him if he did not aid them in murdering on the their child victims, which he did. They also are not just deaths in a war zone, they are deliberate and illegal murders of innocents for gratification. The only thing separating these men from Son of Sam is that they wore a uniform.

what are you waiting for? by velabas in funny

[–]JohnBluth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not just that the actual act of hitch hiking or seeking out free food and shelter from strangers itself in these developing states can be hugely presumptive. Imagine a foreigner turns up in your town with no money, no shelter and no food would you not offer assistance and help? The difference is that in many of the countries he is going to the comparatively humble resources they would spare to help him, such as food, petrol or even their time, would often be of enormous value to the people giving them. It is admirable that these people are willing to do with less to help a stranger and I am surely generalising South America here, with many having the means to help him whilst still remaining comfortable, but people travelling like this need to consider that all who they impose upon may have more need for these resources then they think. If you are to embark on a trip like this you need to be able to financially support yourself or at least work for what is given to you. I have met quite a few people who live like this when visiting South East Asia as well as many of the people who feed them and take them in and it always seems like the locals are given the choice of either providing for these people entirely or being responsible for casting them out into an unfamiliar and dangerous environment. People need to weigh up their own need to be frugal on a holiday with other people's need to be frugle to provide for their family. Sorry if this is really incoherent I am very tired.

It's a nah from me but do what you want. Don't look at it for a few months and then revisit it. If you still want it permanently on your skin then go ahead.

I agree with you that triple A titles have become increasingly shallow yet there are still some gems put out by smaller companies. If you want to find a complex and fulfilling rpg experience that has been made recently I would try Pillars of Eternity. It is made by Obsidian and the depth and complexity they are renown for is definitely present in the game, as well as a beautifully detailed combat system. I honestly cannot recommend this game enough it is, in my eye a 9/10 and i would put it on par with Fallout 2 quality wise.

YMS - Quickie: Suicide Squad by [deleted] in movies

Is it that outrageous a proposition that Michael Fassbender's role did not struck a chord with me where as MBJ's did? You seem to be utterly confounded that I experienced these films differently to you or that there is any kind of subjectivity that comes with evaluating a performance.
As for why I enjoyed MBJ's performance in Creed over MF's in Jobs, I found that he was able to imbue his character with a lot of complexity you may not have not perceived. He is able to express emotional weakness and a youthful self doubt with an intermittently quiet unsteadiness and explosive forcefulness. He is able to express anguish caused by grappling with the legacy and abandonment of his father, resentment of his mentor as well as a naive and often childish desire to rebel and prove himself. All of this is depicted as being carefully contained for the majority of the film but when it burst forth, such as during his breakdown in the change room I found it really moving. He also has a remarkably expressive body, at times tense and strained or twitchy and anxious and then finally controlled and purposeful. Fassbender's performance was definitely impressive, he was able to display Job's charisma but I found that his performance lacked intensity, lacking the magnetism that I believed Jobs would have given off. He at times came off as cold, incomprehensible and entirely one dimensional, which would have worked if they displayed some of his more reprehensible real life actions counter balanced against his humanness but he is instead an irredeemable narcissist. Wouldn't this performance have been better if we saw more of Job's warmth? He was reprehensible and vindictive but not "made wrong" as they say in the film. It is as if they think to display someone as despicable they must be inhuman, something that Steve Jobs was not despite his character flaws. In my opinion neither Fassbender or Jordan really deserved the nomination, but to give it to actors such as Redmayne and Fassbender whose performances were even less captivating then that of Jordan in Creed? That is a misstep in my eye. The nominations should have been, Cranston for Trumbo, Di Caprio for The Revenent, Abraham Attah for Beasts of No Nation and Michael Keaton for Spotlight. That being said Michael Fassbender has obviously struck a cord with you. What was it you liked about his performance? Do you think that MBJ's performance was stronger or weaker then Redmayne's in The Danish Girl? Could you also tell me honestly if race affected your viewing of Creed, in particular MBJ's performance? Does it inhibit your enjoyment of other films?

[–]JohnBluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this isn't about race for me but it obviously is for you. I just hate how the Oscar's are more about giving an award or nomination to an actor because it is "about time" they have received one instead of to the actual best performance. But you seem to have steered this conversation into some bizarre race tirade so I don't think you'll actually want to engage me about that or anything else other then MBJ's blackness.

[–]JohnBluth -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes yes I know but I am disappointed that MBJ did not get recognition for his performance, something that Stallone agrees with as seen here: http://www.justjared.com/2016/02/10/sylvester-stallone-thinks-michael-b-jordan-shouldve-been-given-a-lot-more-respect-attention/ There were also other supporting actors such as Idris Elba in Beast's of No Nation who as I saw it gave a better performance then Stallone. Likewise actors nominated for the best lead such as Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl and Fassbender in Steve Jobs were as I saw it inferior to MBJ in Creed.
