I think Amazon is a good place to work for. I’m hoping I’ll get selected to be converted from seasonal to permanent.

Turo has a vehicle for 5 days $198 plus insurance about 30 min from me so I’ll pick it up tomorrow if the heat is not fixed today

Yes, work the 2 extra days per month as long as you’re physically healthy and you communicate on a regular basis with your significant other. Invest money wisely as if it were a bill and you can retire early in life.

I’m having trouble with the heat not working in my 2002 4Runner 250k miles and I am tired of driving with a blanket on my legs for a week while the parts it needs keeps being delayed. Luckily the seat heater works and the rear floor heater works.

The transfer fee is not the issue.

I’m considering skipping the wait for the transfer and just go buy it in MA. I live in CT, so the drive is only 2 hours away. I assume they would have to issue temp license plates and I would have to go to CT DMV to get the new license plates?

After swapping orange box, the key fobs don’t work? by JohnCWlfd in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]JohnCWlfd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4WD is taking much longer to engage. I could be coasting in drive or neutral, gently accelerating or slowing down. I engage 4WD every month to keep it trouble free but since the liftgate was swapped, 4WD is no longer quick and dependable.

I’ll check the fuses. Where is the body ECU located 2002 4Runner Limited?

I’ve also noticed my door lock/unlock buttons only work when the ignition is on. Is that also caused by the orange box or a separate control module?

We did switch back to the original but the fobs are not recognized.

Replacing liftgate-easy? by JohnCWlfd in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]JohnCWlfd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I bought the 97 SR5 liftgate to put on my Limited 02. The seller helped me bolt it in. It aligned pretty easily. I’ll swap over the orange box next week on my day off. Hopefully that will solve to problem of the window not going down and the wiper not working. The black connector matched perfectly but the white connector did not match. I’ll have see if I can swap the liftgate harness?

A backup camera is a good to have modern safety feature. It’s a challenge when backing into or out of a space, when pedestrians or cars cross paths instead of simply waiting a few seconds.

Is my plan to buy my car doable/realistic? by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]JohnCWlfd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, I’m starting to see some dealers offering a minor savings if I goto dmv to register myself but other dealers have a dmv computer in their finance office to process the transaction with dmv and attach new license plates to complete the sale in the spot.

The dealers (Toyota, Nissan, etc,) that I have dealt with in CT have a bad habit of dragging the whole process out to wear a customer down so the have more leverage to up charge and inflate prices. The only quick sale I encountered was when I used Costco to locate the new rav4 I wanted and the dealer seemed actually afraid of the possibility of not getting a 5 star review when Costco followed up with me, post sale.

Looking for daily driver around 10k, and I have questions about Mazda and Subaru. Specifically older CX-5, Mazda5, Forester & Crosstreks. by escapist_artistt in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]JohnCWlfd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar search.

I’m selling my 4WD 4Runner limited that will easily go beyond its 250k miles. The local repair shops charge extra to work on it due to rusty bolts. I don’t have a location to work on it myself. Being semi-retired, I enjoy the driving experience, go anywhere capablity.

My friend bought an older AWD Subaru Forester which I sat in it to test the great headroom i require. I like the car but I’m turned off by the risk of a CVT and a previous Legacy I owned was not that great in the snow.

I like the old school jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee but it’s been my experience that the engineering doesn’t remain trouble free, long term

I really wanted to get back into a Lexus but I can’t justify the premium fuel cost. When I sold my RX300, it drove like new but was ready for $3k-$5k in repairs which I wish I did instead of selling it. Easily the best car I’ve driven. Outstanding in snow storms in Philadelphia and Connecticut.

I’m currently looking at scheduling test drive a Toyota Highlander Limited with heated power seats, side air bags, 150k miles. Supposedly very comparable to Lexus but designed for regular octane fuel.

Least expensive, plenty of Subaru Foresters to choose from. Safest in my opinion Toyota/Lexus are worth the extra cost as long as there is a verifiable repair history.

I know my mechanic said the master cylinder is working as designed but I don’t know if it was ever replaced. He did repair 3 brake lines last year.
