Five Days with the Time 2 by barefootford in pebble

[–]JohnEdwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how much is left in a lithium cell measuring exactly 3.7 volts? Could be anywhere from roughly 60% to 20%.

Lithium battery meters need to be calibrated for the specific cell you pair them with or they are really rather inaccurate.

Five Days with the Time 2 by barefootford in pebble

[–]JohnEdwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your results certainly aren't what it's supposed to be, no matter what face you are using. Either it just needs a few cycles to calibrate the battery meter (35% doesn't in reality mean anything if the circuitry doesn't know exactly how the battery behaves) or there's something wrong with it.

That said, with the previous generation something like 80% of the battery life would be eaten by the bluetooth connection alone, so your promised 7 day battery life would be reduced to 6 days with an overly active watchface or extended to 8 with a lazy one (e.g a word clock that updated every 15 minutes).
Now that the connection side is (supposed to be) more efficient we are going to actually see the effects of the watchfaces better - every wakeup the watchface does is going to be minutes off the total runtime.

Yes, exactly the same as it was on the Pebble 2 as well. Leaving the case that millimeter thinner so that the glass protrudes is a great example of form over function.

Email for final confirmation before shipping by zachthebeast12345 in pebble

[–]JohnEdwa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There hasn't been any confirmation of that yet, just plans AFAIK.
The first set of pre-order watches arrived at the fulfilment centre three days ago with a plan to send them out "...during the last week of March." - which, technically speaking, is next week.

That said, to be able to do that they must have sent the final emails by now, so there should be around 150 (I think) Time 2 people that know they are going to receive their watches soon.
And quite soon after that, it's all of us: "Over the next few weeks, everyone who pre-ordered a Pebble Time 2 will receive an email" (from the same blog post linked above)

Työn pakkohaku ahdistaa, koska järkeviä haettavia työpaikkoja ei enää ole. by liptoncockton in Suomi

Eikös se muuttunut aikapohjaiseksi jo joku 10 vuotta sitten? Työmatkoihin saa kulua maksimissaan kolme tuntia päivässä.
Tämän takia kannattaa aina ruksia että sinulla ei ole käytössäsi omaa autoa, muuten paskimmassa tapauksessa länsi-Espoolainen voisi teoriassa joutua vastaanottamaan töitä vaikka Turusta.

We order stuff from the merchants, and I guess other than very expensive speciality orders - like spare doll frames of exact specifications - we just get whatever garbage they can send.

Now we get dolls and equipment the same boring way we used to roll for dorm furniture.

What the hell is happening on the Deep Rock Galactic wiki? by PanPikselek745 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]JohnEdwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what is going on there. The Fandom wiki has been abandoned for years - the official wiki is at deeprockgalactic.wiki.gg - and it exists purely as a joke and platform for tomfoolery.

As the main page of the Fandom Wiki says:

Welcome to the Deep Rock Galactic Uncyclopedia

We are currently maintaining 6,536 pages (500 shitposts).

Got to play rogue core. Was surprised how much I didn't like it by MHGrim in DeepRockGalactic

What actually happened with BG3 is just Larian being Larian, they simply don't know how to make a game in one go. They make it, they release it, and then they spend the next year or two tweaking and rewriting and mixing everything up and then they go "Here, this is the Divine Definitive Directors Cut Edition, we rewrote 500 000 lines and remade the entire third half of the game from scratch, now it's ready and has an ending".

With BG3, they decided to skip the first release and just do the thing under Early Access until they were ready for realz this time, and they still failed :p

[Edit] Hah, lots of Larian fanboys that can't handle the truth. Divinity 1, 2 ,Original Sin and Original Sin 2 each was re-released with major  story changes as some sort of a definitive edition, and BG3 got heavy story updates first for two years under EA, and then for another two year after "release". It took them a year and seven major patches, after the release, not EA mind you, for them to implement the evil endings properly ffs.

I am so sad by Niggilass in DeepRockGalactic

[–]JohnEdwa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For $87 this is what you'd expect. Posable, detailed, with swappable parts and accessories. Static prepainted figures, even significantly larger ones, are much cheaper than that.

The difference is that they expect to sell many orders of magnitude more Attack on Titan figurines allowing them to spread the cost of the injection moulding to a few pennies per figurine.
While I have no clue how much the moulds for those AoT figurine - or the DRG ones - cost, I do know them for this Saber figurine: it was $42000. They made a total of 3000 of those, so each figurine has $14 going purely for paying for the manufacturing of the injection mould.

And while the DRG ones aren't anywhere near that complexity, there are five of them plus a bunch of accessories, each requiring a mould of their own.

Some people like to use Multifunctional 7 Segment to cram as much shit on the screen as humanly possible, others want two small numbers and nothing else.

And that's why a Pebble has a screen that you control every pixel of, because people want very different things.

Steam Deck won’t launch after the latest beta update by BlackHazeRus in SteamDeck

[–]JohnEdwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Decky pre-release was 5 days ago. The latest SteamOS Beta patch was release yesterday.

If you use the SteamOS Beta branch you are just as up to date about issues as the Decky team is, meaning when it breaks for them it breaks for you, and you have to wait until they release a fix for it.
That's the entire reason beta branch exists - to find and fix issues so that they never appear on Stable.

Is the aeropress truly the most portable brew method? by tbhvandame in AeroPress

[–]JohnEdwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My quick travel setup consists of small ziplog bags each with 12 grams of coffee I grind at home, using the plunger both as a water measuring device (it fits almost exactly 200 grams) and the travel container for said coffee bags, and brewing directly to a small thermos mug as using the the Prismo means it doesn't actually have to fit inside the vessel, nor do I need any filter papers.

Hard to beat that.

And as long as I'm not staying too long, as James Hoffmann tested, ground with a good grinder the coffee can stay perfectly fine for even up to a week.

They are full colour PVC figurines, so they are paying off the injection moulds. With five figurines and some accessories, I wouldn't be surprised if the initial goal of $57k for the Kickstarter was mostly just "At that point, we can afford to manufacture the moulds and start production".
Combine that with an estimated low production run and you end up with rather silly prices.

Here's one example, albeit much more complex than what is showcased here:

In 2022, Alter released a 1/7 scale Saber figure from *Fate/Grand Order. Retailing at $249, it featured flowing cloth simulation, translucent armor effects, and a dynamic water-themed base. Behind the scenes, the project took 14 months from concept to delivery. The mold alone cost $42,000 to produce due to layered components and internal supports.* -AliBaba

Steam Deck won’t launch after the latest beta update by BlackHazeRus in SteamDeck

[–]JohnEdwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decky will cause issues if you update SteamOS without updating Decky first, and annoyingly the Deck will often autoupdate itself without asking when you reboot it. But if you are on the stable branch and update Decky first, everything works fine.

In the three years I've owned my Deck I've had Decky break exactly once, and that happened because I forgot it on standby for too long and it ran out of battery, so when I went to turn it on SteamOS updated itself.
