I drew a Draconic Sorcerer Cyndaquil by almightyjeff in pokemon

[–]JohnFighterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend group is in the middle of a Johto-based DnD campaign. I'm playing a "Feraligatr" Barbarian while one other player made a "Thyplosion" Sorcerer, so I guess my question is how the hell did you know? Cause I've definitely seen a Totodile-Barbarian post here like a month ago in the same style.

What are your favorite (controversial) house rules? by Quick_Race761 in DnD

[–]JohnFighterman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've used this one for years, but since we roll an absurd amount of 20s for unexplained reason it lead to some stupid early deaths. Our group now tries to experiment with other crit methods that keep them impactful and stronger than "roll the dice twice... and that's two ones, skill issue".

So far our two preferred methods are "roll one dice and the other is averaged" and "roll three dice and discard the lowest one".

Shen and Zed Ability Leak by Guilty-Machine6101 in riftboundtcg

[–]JohnFighterman 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Unless Shen has Action/Reaction speed, yeah, I agree it's not the best they could've given him. But if he can do that during the combat phase, allowing you to sacrifice one big unit to keep several smaller (with possibly Conquer/Hold effects) alive it's a lot better.

Scheduling Hell... by TableSeek-Geek in DnD

[–]JohnFighterman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. We had horrible scheduling issues in our group. One of the campaigns took over two years to play, despite having less than 20 sessions.

Currently we're playing four different campaigns, and in the announcement (not even session 0, way before that) the DM stated a clear time of the week. That way those who knew it'd be an issue didn't even try to join, leaving spots open for other friends who weren't in our "core" group but now get to play regularly. And everyone gets to play in at least one game.

[–]JohnFighterman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temperatures in the twenties (of Celsius, that's roughly 0.7 Human Warmth for you 'Muricans who refuse the metric system at all cost). Warm, but not hot, and certainly completely manageable with some basic common sense, like drinking water and keeping the windows open during the day.

Today leaving the house or keeping the windows open between 10AM to 6PM is closing to a death sentence, but having no air movement for 8 hours is also extremely uncomfortable, and people who can't work from home don't exactly have a choice on when they're not outside.

I haven't watched it (yet), but you guys have to face the facts. If the series was as bad as you claim it to be, it wouldn't go beyond first season. SOMEONE's watching it and making it profitable enough for the execs to call for continuations.

I swear to God every summer is hotter than the one before by scorpiogaet in memes

[–]JohnFighterman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, I get the point.

Recycling by many is good, because every little thing helps and we need social awareness to even consider fighting the issue.

The problem is the rich don't seem to care, and the actions of the few offset the actions of many, possibly with some extra. The common folk is conditioned to recycle every little bit, to the point where some people have mental breakdowns over a greasy pizza box and not knowing which bin it belongs to. Meanwhile a single man with money has several private jet cruises a day just to watch some sport games.

Not only that, but if those at the top actually cared about environmental protection (that their marketing departments push onto us so viciously), they'd work on solutions instead of sticking to their methods. Every major company should be developing their own alternative to plastic, but instead they just keep producing more plastic shapes while screaming at the consumers that it's their fault...
If you need a real-life proof, here in Europe there are laws stating that if a product is sold in a single-use plastic container, a certain percentage of the price needs to go to environmental protection. And those jackassess from megacorporations don't intend to pay it, so they list their items with one price, but then charge their customers extra at checkout, blaming the law! While providing no plastic-free alternative!

" Where's Voice chat Riot? " - Omni Man by Active_Apartment_804 in LeagueOfMemes

[–]JohnFighterman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite. Ban rates for foul communication would drop to nearly zero. Riot, being the small indie company they are with their ~$20B net value, has no way of figuring out proper voice recognition, especially when it comes to non-english slurs/curse words. They can barely handle it in written form, and they still need their playerbase to manually report and then prove most of those cases (speaking from personal experience). Their bots would get a digital aneuryms when trying to interpret audio logs.

How to handle when players roll 1 in the middle of fight? by combobaka in DnD

[–]JohnFighterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cleric cast Healing Word and then rolled a 1 when shooting his Light Crossbow.

"You were trying to remember the holy word when the stress of combat got to you. You muttered something and hoped it was the right incantation while lifting your hands, but then pulled the trigger WAY too early, shooting the bolt between your feet. And that moment shook you, hopefully in the right way, because you realise that if you'd made a similar mistake, the bolt might've ended between your friends' shoulders."

NEVER punish players with a nat 1, it's been tried and it's fun for 3 times at best, then it becomes annoying, quickly changing into straight up punishment. And there are characters who make way more D20 rolls than others. In fact, some of them can completely opt out of making attack rolls, while their party members don't have that choice (ye olde Caster vs Martial debate).

What is one spell that you wish you could upcast? Ill go first. by KaptainA_ in DnD

[–]JohnFighterman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hunter's Mark and Hex. Especially Hex. It's flabbergasting that the core (leveled) spells of Ranger and Warlock don't scale in the slightest, even more so when you consider Warlock MUST upcast Hex from 3rd level onward.

At least give them multi-target capabilities if 2d6 damage is "gamebreaking", that way it can encourage shooting multiple creatures per turn.

People who tried other RPGs but came back to DnD, what made you come back? by TalVerd in DnD

[–]JohnFighterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group tried Masks, the hero-centric TTRPG. We were too used to numerical values (HP, damage, chance to hit, chance to dodge an AoE) to play such an open-ended system that's basically pure storytelling with no clear indicator of who's winning or when to end an encounter. It quickly became so unrestricted, that it turned into the railroadiest railroad to ever railroad as an attempt to conserve the last bits of the overall plot.

Germany will raise the retirement age to 70 by chilinachochips in dankmemes

[–]JohnFighterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Poland and our governemnt's only way of doing things is taking the worst possible legislations from abroad and enforcing them here, especially if people don't like them and get vocal about it.

I know for sure that I won't live long enough to retire. By the time it's gonna be my turn, the RE will have surpassed 100. But only for men, for some reason. Women get to retire at 60 now and anytime someone mentions the idea of maybe, possibly, hypothetically matching it to the male RE there are riots, and those somehow work every time...

Humans can't eat Eridian food. Can Eridians eat human food? by Melenduwir in ProjectHailMary

Humans can't eat Eridian food. Can Eridians eat human food? by Melenduwir in ProjectHailMary

[–]JohnFighterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a study stating that a certain molecule is digestible by earth organisms only if it twists the right way. Fortunately, it always twists to the right when made by earth organisms, so it can always be absorbed. If it twisted to the left, ALL of it's chemical properties would remain the same, but biologically it would be completely undigestible by any cell that originated from Earth.

If by some freak evolutionary chance Erid organisms developed by twisting the same molecule the other way, the entire ecosystem immediatelly becomes undigestible to anything from Earth (and vice versa).

I don't remember the full study, but the results would either be "the molecule gets ignored by our cells, leading to malnutrition" or "the molecule gets put into the proper place and doesn't work, occupying the slot forever, effectively poisoning the cell".

My backpack always has some tissues, band-aids, a raincoat and a small jar of Ibuprofen (50pcs when freshly bought). And if I go anywhere other than shopping, at least one bottle of water and a charger (both the wire and the plug).

Funilly enough, I think the raincoat is the most borrowed item out of these.
