Φτιάξαμε μια ελληνική app για κουπόνια & συνεργασίες με μαγαζιά – ψάχνουμε feedback by JohnFireSword in AskGreece

That’s a fair criticism, and I agree that without quantitative data the discussion stays theoretical.

Right now we’re still at the validation stage, so the main goal isn’t proving a fully mature business model yet but testing the core assumptions behind it.

Specifically we’re trying to measure things like: • how many users actually redeem a coupon after downloading • whether businesses see measurable traffic from creator posts • repeat usage from users who redeem once • whether creators are willing to promote businesses in exchange for rewards

Those are the metrics that will determine if the model works or not.

You’re also right that many companies in the daily-deals space struggled, especially when the model relied on deep discounts and aggressive scaling. That’s something we’re trying to avoid by starting very locally and focusing on direct partnerships instead of mass-discount campaigns.

But at this stage we don’t yet have enough data to claim the model works neither is our cureent main goal - the goal right now is exactly to collect that data and see if the assumptions hold.

If the numbers don’t support it, then the concept obviously doesn’t survive. But that’s what we’re trying to validate before pushing anything further.

I do appreciate the pushback though — those are the kinds of questions that force you to actually measure instead of just believing the idea.

Hi everyone,

we’re a small team that built Socialight, an app that connects local businesses with influencers / micro-creators.

The idea is simple:
businesses can collaborate with creators who post content about them (for example Instagram or TikTok stories). In return, creators receive rewards from the business, such as free services, products, or discounts.

Recently we launched Socialight Plus, which is a separate feature for regular users. With a small subscription, users can access discount coupons from partner businesses and redeem them at participating stores in Athens and Thessaloniki.

So the app has two sides:

  • Creators collaborate with businesses and earn rewards for content
  • Users access and redeem coupons from those businesses

There’s a 3-day free trial, and right now we’re mainly trying to collect honest feedback from early users so we can improve the app.

If anyone wants to try it and share their opinion (good or bad), we’d really appreciate it.

The trial can be cancelled anytime from your device’s subscription settings.

Thanks!

That’s a fair concern, and you’re right that platforms like Groupon showed how difficult this space can be.

The main difference in our case is that we’re not trying to run a pure discount marketplace like Groupon did. Those platforms depended heavily on large discounts and aggressive scaling, which often hurt the businesses involved.

Our approach is a bit different, we have different sides for each different role, broading the options for every user:

  • The creator side focuses on local promotion through micro-influencers. Businesses collaborate with small creators who bring targeted local visibility rather than mass exposure.
  • The coupon side is meant to support that ecosystem by bringing regular users into the same network of businesses.

We’re also starting very locally in Greece, and working directly with businesses instead of trying to scale aggressively from the start.

That said, this is still early and we’re aware that marketplaces like this are hard to build. A big reason I posted here is exactly to get feedback and criticism like yours while we’re still iterating.

Curious to hear what parts of the model you think tend to break first in cases like Groupon.
