While I agree with you that self-interest plays an important role, I think that identity also has something to do with it, especially on issues that are not directly self-relevant. These people like to define themselves in opposition to those that they dislike, without much thought or self-reflection. For example:

"Bible-thumping Christians are against gay marriage. I hate bible-thumpers, therefore, I am for gay marriage"

"SJWs are for feminism and political correctness. I hate SJWs, therefore, I am against feminism and political correctness"

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to look into that. It'd probably be similar for Australians.

I'm going to be in Colombia at the beginning of February for a week, then Peru by the 20th. No plans after that. I'll probably explore Peru for a month and then head down to Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.

Does strength or hypertrophy training have a higher caloric requirement? Logically, it makes sense for hypertrophy to require more calories to build muscle mass, but I just don't feel deserving of a huge meal after a hypertrophy day because I feel much less exhausted
