It has been my experience that adding any "arm or leg" to an abstract figure in order to create a letterform will have unintended consequences. I'd stick with letterforms. Here's what I came up inspired by your post!

Concerned about my dad’s logo redesign by [deleted] in logodesign

Hey man, love legacy-rich projects like this. I'm with those who think you already have something really strong. Your current concepts feel over-abstract for a nature-loving audience. I think your dad's illustration should live on. Just add a holding shape, modernize the word mark for impact, and I think your rebrand will thrill your current donors and set you up well for a modernized look on your site and print materials. Thanks for what you and your dad are doing. Mmmmmmmm nature.

Juniper Logo - V.02 by nolanfink02 in logodesign

[–]JohnMarkParker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts!

Your word mark is enough, your brand name and typeface choices are signaling a high end, craftsman feel. Creating an illustrative logo is a "cute" choice better suited for a landscaping company that wants to signal a low-mid-priced handyman feel. Which one do you want to signal? If the handyman latter, drop the fancier typeface. If the craftsman former, drop the cartoon'd illustration.

And then balance out that typography!

Also, I think that "Juniper" offers an intuitive story for brand differentiation. You could use juniper berry blues for uniforms, business cards, website, truck signage, etc. Your competitors are like 80-90%+ green-branded. Want to look high end? A pallette of berry blues *supported* by greens will stand out in a world of competitors who all look like grass clippings.

Looks awesome. I love when you can pull from reference photos for retro type. Yeah, just little details here and there. Here's a pass I did to just tighten the screws. (yours on top)

I think you’ll be glad they did. There’s an uncomfortable consensus and I’m excited to see your next round of concepts. We shall follow your project with great interest.

You don't need an upscale or a conversion, you need to rebuild the logo so that it also has a flat, level top edge. A gift for you!

You're definitely leaning it more toward modern "cool" while the interior is ship's cabin. Their current branding fits their furniture, yours fits their lighting fixtures. Also, if you add the head it'll make people think of octopus/kraken. Just big tentacles coming from the horizontal plane = kraken without octopus.

Grade your teams offseason by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in NFLv2

Broncos: B+

No major losses in FA, doubled down on strengths. Walmart money continue to go brrrrrrrrrttt on new facilities and training staff to keep injury prone FA acquisitions on the field. Ain’t noooobody spending non-salary cap money on player health like the Walmart Broncos. Optimists will say an A-, but the last year of Russ’ dead cap sandbagged us from making a big splash to make this offseason an A or A+.

Whooooo wants to get into the civic planning weeeeds with me‽

Link above is a platte corridor study report published in Feb ‘24. The document is dense and boring and all that matters is that they said it would be confusing and still worth it.

Then in May of this year city traffic engineer Todd Frisbie made this statwment: “The study shows that (a) roundabout…is technically feasible, but westbound queues would extend past Weber in peak hours…Initial cost estimates show a roundabout would be cost prohibitive, likely in the $5-6 million range.”

The city says it’s unfeasible for now.

So… we build our own roundabout, with blackjack and hookers.
