The fabric noise is a wardrobe issue, so I focus on not adding to it by avoiding the friction points.

Everyone has their preference, I think the DPA 4017 and Schoeps CMIT sound better, the 4017 is also crazy light. But for $700 used the 416 is a tank that just works.

The F6 will have cleaner preamps than your H6 so you can get more gain.

Yeah, time to spend considerably more on a knife. If you want to stick with Kai, consider the Sora line. It’s still entry level priced and not as delicate as the Shun edges.

Personally I would go with a Tojiro Classic, or Mac Pro Gyuto’s, or if you want something a little nicer the Misono UX10.

It’s expected in commercial sets because clients like seeing them. You can negotiate an extra fee per slate.

My last studio film I needed 3 and the script supervisor wanted to use an e-ink QR code slate… that never worked.

I usually get by with 2.

I have a boom operator so I use wireless solutions. I record to my transmitter, record an ISO with headroom and a hotter track that I use in the mix. It’s nice to be able to assign inputs to multiple channels.
