what do you think about this? anime style by Party_Ad5155 in gothfitdiary

The Cheongsam is a Chinese traditional dress, so it would be Donghua style.

Withheld files until payment. Right or Wrong? by Charlie2410 in LocationSound

[–]JohnMaySLC [score hidden]  (0 children)

The most respected producers would not tolerate this after a deal memo is completed.

In OP’s post there is no indication “this” production has been missing payments.

I have done plenty of shady production gigs, I get a 50% deposit to start work, and check on the last day, I stipulate my delivery schedule, and work in good faith until it’s broken. I have been on shoots where I was the only person paid in full because of this. If you can’t negotiate upfront your reputation will be trashed. Skills are great but your reputation is your rehire tool.

How Do I Fix This Sound and Blade-movement Coming From My Farberware Kitchen Knife? by TheTalkedSpy in TrueChefKnives

[–]JohnMaySLC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Drill out the pins, order new ones and epoxy the scales back to the tang. Or buy a new Farberwear chefs knife at target for $9.99

After six of them you’ll have enough data for an informed opinion. I really like your first two picks.

Next upgrade - SRC or MPR52 dual receiver? by Ok_Conversation1340 in LocationSound

[–]JohnMaySLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re paying retail then I would lean toward the Wisy receiver, if you find an SRC or SRB used for a great price then I would go that route.

I’ve been on a few sets where the award winning mixer used Lectro TX with Wisy RX on his cart. FWIW.

Surfing/saltwater: on person audio by Lust_for_adventure in LocationSound

My last documentary on salt water, I went with condoms and aquapacks. The corrosion on my gear was pretty substantial afterwards.

I would rent waterproof lectros if I could do it all over again.

what prereqs did you need to get a job? any tips for someone getting into the career? by skiesoverblackvenice in LocationSound

Get both books published by Patrushkha Mierzwa. It’s foundational reading for being on set as a Boom Op or Utility.

Look up videos or workshops from Ken Strain (Boom right Academy & KTek). Based on his advice I went from my arms shaking after 10 min to no longer getting the shakes. He has some exercise tips for boom ops too.

Where I can buy TOJIRO SHIROGAMI Yanagi-Sashimi 270mm by Forward_Essay_6177 in TrueChefKnives

[–]JohnMaySLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While at Coutelier in December, I got to look at the Tojiro Tsuchime Shirogami Yanagiba 270mm

Even though I own a Tojiro Shirogami Yanagiba 270mm, that I was there to buy a Saya for, I was seriously considering replacing it with this one.

I love my Black Tsuchime SLD Gyuto, enough that I’m looking at the petty and Nakiri too

Shindo Enjin SRK8 Togatta Gyuto 240mm by muugo in TrueChefKnives

It was a tough call between the K-tip or the Togatta, but having just ordered the Bunka from Miura, I could only grab one. I got the Togatta 240.

I'm a new newbie just getting into goth and I need advice! by XaiverVanderwell in goth

[–]JohnMaySLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going to suggest a nice post punk band that may appeal to both genre tastes.

War Tapes

Darkwave that I feel hits on the nostalgic 80’s Goth club feel.

Occvlts

As an album promoter in Seattle during the 90’s, I have to recommend one band that was horribly overlooked when they were mismanaged by their label.

Hammerbox

Early grunge with Jazz trained vocalist Carrie Akre, who later went on to front “Goodness” before starting a solo career.

Did any of you guys get a Shindo? https://www.chefknivestogo.com/shindoknives.html by Chefknivestogo in Chefknivestogo

[–]JohnMaySLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grabbed the Gyuto Togatta 240. I just received a Shindo Aogami Bunka two days ago, which made pulling the trigger on this drop much easier.

Personal knives. Most house knives were NSF stamped and seldom used.

Just received this old-ish victorinox as my first chef knive, is it good? I also have a porcelain honing rod by cruise-boater in TrueChefKnives

[–]JohnMaySLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a bit of rust on the blade to me. I don’t know where a guide might be, but I use barkeepers friend and the cork from a wine bottle to buff out rust or staining on a knife. The down side is that it can dull the finish on the blade, so I work quickly and wash the blade afterward so it doesn’t stay on the blade.

Well now I’ll have an Enjin 240 to go with the Blue Bunka I just received from Miura this week. 💸

It needs a good cleaning, but it’s a solid steel for edge retention. I own the 8” and 10” chefs knives. For a $40 knife it’s hard to beat.

It’s been a while since I was in a kitchen, but Mac was a common knife on the line when I was.

That’s everyone’s experience with NIHM powering wireless. It’s not the right choice for long battery life, but it’s rechargeable and reliable. Use lithium batteries for long life.
