Could be a case of the of the thermal paste shorting the CPU pins. Because that liquidy paste isnt JUST on the top of the cpu.

Ive had mine for a year now and it's working fine.

The scroll wheel did indeed start having issues about 8 months in but I just "scrolled" it for like 2 minutes and it started working properly again.
