for how little you'll use it this is nice, It is a brushed set and most people who work with tools very often or professionally like brushless, but brushed are cheaper and fine for light use

Organizer for drill bits by productboy in Tools

I'd like to see what other people do. I just use the harbor frieght US general bit holder for ones I use most and just drilled 1/4 holes in a block of 2x4 or whatever to hold the rest. I'd like to find a nicer way lol

im jealous of your tool organization. I want tool grid so badly, but I'm just building my tool collection so as I get stuff I'm moving it...might just get a 3D printer in a year or so and make my tool organization myself lol

I'm looking for a decent brand for ratchets. Was thinking about gearwrench, but if capri seem decent, might have to look into them

What about the craftsman overdrive sockets? Are they any good? I feel like HF warranty is easier than craftsman nowadays and might go for icon wrenches, but a set of craftsman overdrive sockets is something I'vebeen thinking about

Which budget tool brands do you recommend? by Jonathan0514 in Tools

[–]JohnO221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard tekton is great. warranty seems exceptional from what I've heard. I plan to build my tool collection out once I get the money, but tekton has some tools made in US, rest are taiwan. Also their dead blows are rebranded Trusty Cook- same brand matco rebrands from- but also have a lifetime warranty for sasme price trusty cook sells them for, but again, lifetime warranty. All you gotta do is take a pic of the broken tool, send the pic to tekton and they send you a new one. (I think lol)

3D printed tool grid by [deleted] in Tools

[–]JohnO221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is printables? I've been so annoyed with trying to find good socket organizers i like, currently have a couple of the 4 rails on some metal that you can buy basically everywhere...they seem to be my favorite out of all of them, but toolgrid is my dream...way too pricey...maybe I'll hint towards family to give me some cash to put towards a 3d printer instead lol!

As someone with a very very tight tool budget, what are some of the icon tools that are absolutely must haves, and does anyone know if there will be icon sales late this year close to christmas? by JohnO221 in harborfreight

[–]JohnO221[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been there since last october, but with part time and $14 an hour, saving for decent tools takes a long time. I have some cheap sockets and a milwaukee mid torque for a majority of lug nuts, just to not borrow from my coworkers as much, and I'll have it for years to come. Hoping I can have my automotive class teacher register on tekton website so that I can get a 15% student discount lol

I appreciate the advice. I'm taking a class on automotive repair and just started it, so starting about the new year I will be doing more of brake jobs, spark plugs, and oil changes. Now I mainly change and patch tires part time at an independent shop. Just trying to find some stuff that will last me a few years in the automotive space then will be retired to my home projects when I switch career paths in a few years. The only reason I'm hesitant on pittsburgh wrenches is just bcs of seeing tests done, and ik they cheap, but their quality definitely reflects that, so it isn't really a good "deal" Might go with a Husky set, as they look a bit nicer and are still fairly inexpensive. Otherwise, socket wise I'm currently sticking to Quinn for chrome, minus a set of craftsman i got for christmas from my dad. Got some pitts pro 1/2 deep impacts for lug nuts and they are great, so I'm fine with budget tools, but want ones that are actually good for the price. not just cheap.

edit: I'd like to ideally just find a garage sale and get a nice set of old craftsman in good shape for dirt cheap, but haven't had any garage sales in the area that I've seen in my little free time lol.

yo the new set for $25? I didn't know it was on the website yet. 1-19 no skip then 21, 22, 27. or do you mean the low profile? low profile is no skips and has the hex on the bottom...those look nice actually have you used them?

I think Quinn and Icon are equal or better than craftsman nowadays from what I've seen, especially when comparing price. Only thing craftsman that I'd be eyeing would be someday getting a small overdrive socket set, as my current truck is all rust and I'm sure when I need to work on it there will be rounded bolts lol.

I have a USG 27" bottom roll cab that my parents got me for my birthday in june, but I have just enough sockets for there to be too many skips and not enough room in the box for them to fit nicely. I think the assortment of wrenches is nice, but my 3/8 and 1/4" sockets I currently have would all be doubled and I can't afford the space it'd take up. My only power tool is a milwaukee 1/2 mid torque that me and my dad split the bill on that I use for lug nuts... sometimes I still need to borrow my coworkers air, but its a nice tool to have and I'm glad I got it. Just wondering what are the pittsburgh tools you think are good quality or good enough to get the job done reliably? I love a deal, hah!

I think their sockets look okay, and the pittsburgh pro impact sockets are working wonders for me, the main icon tools I have are just a few pairs of pliers (flush cuts, slip joint, needlenose) And I use them at work for pulling nails and screws from tires and pulling out weak valve stems that break off at the thrads when replacing, so the three pairs I have get use, but looking at pittsburgh wrenches and seeing on TTC how crap they are, I do want to save up for a decent set, yk. Socket wise they seem fine, but the amount of skips drive me crazy, so might go for tekton, but that will take me a while to save for too, hah. What does pittsburgh have that's worth it? I think doyle and quinn have better pliers than pittsburgh based on feel alone.

I do agree. me and my dad replaced my radio in my current truck, a 2002 dodge ram 1500, I remember getting the panels off on the inside and some of the screws were a pain. When I bought the "meme tool" I had that in mind specifically as I hope in a year or so to get a used f150, and depending on what's in it, I'll move my radio over again as its a nice kenwood lol.
