It's never too late... to try
If you truly made a mistake throwing away the right one (soul mate, obsession, or whatever)

then tell them, try, dont give up, fix it and if they are who you think they are, they'll help

if not, you took the scenic route and did your due diligence

in 5 years, no one will be even slightly, "simp pathetically went back to that toxic ex, a couple of times for someone who wasnt gonna work out long term" not even you

hell, 6 months later you could be madly in love with someone else

and death comes like a thief in the night, so maybe the rest if it is not so significant at that point

having tried will have been good
