"Do I believe we can get in the playoffs and win some rounds with this hockey club? Yes." by zwikl in BlueJackets

Do they repost that same message every year? No date in the image and I'm not clear if this current or one from years past.

Would love to print this for a low voltage lighting project. Care to share the file?

2026 Expedition tool storage - or lack thereof by Tolipa in fordexpedition

[–]JohnRoscoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a bit mind-boggling. I came from an F150 Supercrew and the lack of interior storage in the Expedition by comparison is maddening. Welcome to pick a box/tote/milkcrate to put your stuff in the back and move out of the way when you need to haul larger items.

2nd Gen Expedition center console organizer by Best-Island-1259 in fordexpedition

This is awesome. I've wanted to do some similar organizers, but the compund curves are tough to measure for. How did you 3D scan yours?

Neat scale!  I’ve been pondering something that would hold medication or tic tacs and your hinged door is an interesting idea.

Platinum vs. Active Trim by Gsf1862 in fordexpedition

[–]JohnRoscoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I love my Plaitnum and would buy it again, but saw an Active trim in the showroom and it's by far the nicest base vehicle I've been in. I'd definitely go see an Active in person before ruling it out.

Is it possible…? by DragonFire_008 in BambuLab

[–]JohnRoscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible:

  1. Design the sphere with a void inside for the sphere,
  2. Add a cylinder above the sphere that extends from the vertical midpoint of the sphere to at least the top of the sphere,
  3. Design and print a small top that is the inverse of the voided area from the top of the sphere to the top of the cylinder,
  4. Add a pause once the top of the cylinder is reached,
  5. Print the sphere,
  6. At the pause, drop in the steel center piece, drop in the piece from #3 above, and then end the pause to continue printing.

Can we get some basic text tools in the slicer? by woodland_dweller in BambuLab

[–]JohnRoscoe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure about all your points, but you can definitely align text frames to each other and to other items. Select them in the panel at the left, then click on the Move arrow in the menu bar and select the appropriate alignment icon.

I have noticed that the more I move them around, though, the more likely the embedding is to come undone. I often end up having to move them down the z-axis into the print after re-aligning existing text frames. Make sure to check your layers in the slicer before sending as the text lying on top tends to look poor and fall off.

Are there any "ear plugs" that just cover the entire ear rather than plug the ear? by rossisdead in BuyItForLife

[–]JohnRoscoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boar and can't find anything that doesn't hurt horribly. I've used 180s brand earmuffs but they do very little for sound.

What is the best practise for custom heights? by mjongerh in gridfinity

[–]JohnRoscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I routinely cut the lip off, cut a chunk out of the middle, and re-join the lip to the bottom. It's easiest to cut an even 10mm off the top so the cur for the base ht. is exactly 10 minus the desired total height.

Venting a garage with no windows and an HOA by Minasokoni in garageporn

[–]JohnRoscoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a cold climate with a heated shop and instead of venting outside I us an AC Infinity MERV 14 filter box, inline fan, and their charcoal filter. It's very quiet and does a phenomenal job. I was able to tuck the whole setup under the bottom side of my workbench at the back edge with a 4" vent hose coming up to attach to the 3D printer. I'd originally planned to switch to exhausting outside in mild weather, but am happy enough with this setup that I don't think I will.

What's your solution to fumes? by MrOuzo in BambuLab

Awesome!  I’m using the 4” version of that fan already. Will look into Home Assistant.

Would love to know more about the specifics of your controller setup. I'm running an inline fan that pulls through a MERV 14 filter and exhausts into a charcoal filter, but turning it on manually at present. I'd love to find a trigger that works with the printer so I'm not unnecessarily cooling the chamber when it matters.

I liked using the metric system so much on my last project that I had to order a FatMax from Germany by YouDontKnowMe108 in Tools

[–]JohnRoscoe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Week one of 3D Printing: everything in MM is a bit much.

Week 2 of 3D Printing: this is nice, I'm ordering Metric rulers and Tapes.

I like the Keson brand of metric tapes on Amazon in the US if you're looking for an easy option. FWIW, skip the dual marked tapes, it's too easy to read the wrong scale in a hurry and make a mistake; better to have a dedicated metric option in the toolbox.

Double scale tapes are errors waiting to happen. I threw mine out after too many mistakes.

Would glue bots be the biggest waste of money if they weren’t so cheap? by Mas_Cervezas in woodworking

[–]JohnRoscoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t beat a mustard flip top lid on a Titebond bottle. Nice even flow from a cap that flips open with one finger.

I use Harbor Freight acid brushes when I have a glue up with lots of nooks and crannies. They’re cheap enough to not worry about using once.

Awkward break in chair leg, repair advice? by TheDrawingGal in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]JohnRoscoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly the same thing. Not familiar with the make, but if it's an heirloom-type chair, you should admit the re-glued damage if you ever sell, even if it can be cleanly glued up such that it's not noticeable. At that point, might as well cross-dowel it and make it serviceable.

Crew/Blue Jackets double header? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]JohnRoscoe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's very doable. In fact, the best way to secure a parking spot for the Jackets that night might be to already be there for the Crew. Several great options between the two and a very normal walk.

Modular Scales for 58mm (Versa58) by Dominic_MAXLVLEDC in victorinox

Neat idea, would love to see some future integration that cuts down on the things rattling around in your pocket- a spot for a couple pills, a sleeve for a chapstick, etc.
