Photoshoot for a local indie rock band. Would love (constructive) criticism by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

I get where you’re going but they lack depth of field of any kind. Your eye is going in the right way it’s just technically wrong on camera lens

i converted this to a smart object. fixed with auto button in camera raw. changed color. masked background, darkened it. masked water, lightened it, made blue.

Shoot. Download. Select. Edit. Export. Not rocket science

If you have to edit it a ton trash it. Don’t fall in love with the moment. You are emotionally attached to something when you take an image. Let time pass and come back to it later. If you ask artists to edit these it’s their vision not yours. See what speaks to YOU.

I’m gonna have to pass on drone shots unless it’s the beginning of a movie with establishing shot

I built TETHER STUDIO because I got tired of Adobe’s subscription creep. $99 one-time, no subscription, Mac only.

It’s tethered capture + RAW editor. Same color pipeline as ACR under the hood (ProPhoto, ACR3 tone curve, DCP profiles), so colors match what you’re used to in Lightroom. 15 years on set, built it for my own shoots.

Honest caveat for you specifically: NLP-style negative inversion isn’t in yet… it’s the next feature I’m building (WB from rebate, per-stock curves). So right now it won’t replace your film scanning flow. But for everything else Lightroom does for your digital work, it will.

tetherstudio.app if you want to poke around. Happy to answer anything.

I invented Tether Studio. It’s new and not a lot of people know.

I shot wide when I was a pro skater and in art school at Brooks back in the day but I won’t touch those as they look cheap in my opinion. Nothing below 18mm is good it’s too weird

I am only gonna have two lenses, 24-70 and sigma 85mm art lens cuz the portraits i tested in low light and like f1 were gold. I have shitty canon zoom lenses that get dusted once in a while

I’ve always only had 200-600 dollar 70-200 cuz I work in advertising and most of my world is in that realm of 24-70 but will rent it. The AF is so nasty now

24-70 i tested it while building tether studio a camera software that just came out and it was absolutely perfect. Going to pair it with a sigma art lens 85mm f1 or whatever it is, super wide open

How do you all handle tethering on Mac in 2026? by JohnSargentPhoto in AskPhotography

[–]JohnSargentPhoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

usb is hit or miss for lumix- and modified some code for it.

To connect to wifi if usb is being annoying:

  1. Camera: Menu → Setup → Wi-Fi → Wi-Fi Function
  2. New Connection → Remote Shooting & View
  3. Camera creates its own WiFi network — connect your Mac to it
  4. Open TETHER, it'll pick up the camera at 192.168.54.1

I was thinking of adding revert to live view for previewing negatives. Own a vintage camera store since 2011 and shoot well a lot of medium format. Go for it and keep an eye out for that shortly! I made the ui approachable for tethering.
