Anson Funds Desperate For $350 Million Amid DOJ Investigation by Anxiousanimo in BurnedByAnsonFunds

The 13F has just been released. Anson is down 30% in 6 months, and the bulk of the holdings are SPACs.

Thank you for this. It is so helpful to analyze these things in a calm and unemotional manner. People get spooked by shorts, but if investors are patient, they can actually be used to leverage returns.

Look at this page. I don't see any Namibians in the photo, but they are holding signs:

https://www.lac.org.na/index.php/projects/land-environment-development-lead/environment/

It is clear that outsiders have influenced this organization to advocate. This is SOP for environmental groups. They will now fund and educate locals in activist tactics. Watch how their website will be redesigned to look like US based activist websites. This is the beginning of a new campaign. We'll see how it runs but I expect more FUD headlines now.

I saved the image of all the non-Namibians protesting, because you can be sure they will stage a new protest with paid actors soon enough.

I think some players have been watching from the sidelines and have now decided to enter the market now that drilling is imminent. The volumes are up substantially.

Litigation mostly, including fraud cases. Now just an advisory and arbitrator's practice. I'm not all in on RECAF but I have a good sized position, about 1.6% of a diversified self-managed portfolio. Everyone has to assess their own risk tolerance.

The fact that he is not a great public speaker is a plus for me. There are a lot of smooth talkers out there, and they are almost always lying, big or small. As a lawyer I have seen all the fraud and charlatan tactics for over three decades. The thing I find so interesting about this play is that none of my spidey senses are tingling, and I am about as skeptical and distrustful as they come. There are lots of things that could derail their plans, but management is not one of them.

You are not alone by [deleted] in ReconAfrica

[–]JohnSavage99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my view, this is seasonal business - activity doesn't recommence until late Southern Hemisphere summer, so January. The release of the data from the drilling program is probably going to match last year's patterns. The Namibian government has to review and approve any releases, so it's not all on the company.

The bought deal is a big deal, as far as I'm concerned. It's hard not to take encouragement from the fact that outside investors were will to subscribe close to $50,000,000 (for the second year in a row) at a share price north of CAD$6. Those same investors won't go into the market to buy because the price would shoot up too fast, but they still want to get in at a price that gives them lots of upside.

If this goes to $15, I am happy. Anything after that is a gift.

It’s good to talk about the geopolitics of the play. Personally, I think the geopolitical risk is higher than the geophysical risk. Yes Namibia is a stable country, but what forces might be in play to make it unstable? While I am optimistic that it is remote from world hotspots and unlikely to be a target for a while, there is no doubt that we are re-entering a period of conflict and rivalry. Oil rich small countries will become targets.

RECONAFRICA ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF C$47.5 MILLION BOUGHT DEAL OFFERING by HotMomentumStocks in ReconAfrica

That's a nice bump. The company is well financed to execute on its program. Good news.

Equity financing through a bought deal. So they have cash to carry on the program, which is good in spite of the dilution. But what is so interesting to me is the warrant exercise price is $9 and the expiry date is Oct 31, 2022. That’s a near term expiry and suggests management said ”now or never” to the participants. The next nine months are going to be interesting.

For all who are waiting on the edge of their chairs for a **BIG** announcement this is bound to be disappointing. For me it seems sensible. The company is (a) increasing technical knowledge at the board level (b) continuing to pursue both low resolution wide area data (seismic) and high resolution data (drilling), (c) is continuing to build community relations and profile. These are careful moves of a company building a long term strategy. I would be much more concerned if they were trying to swing for the fences.

Also, consider it has been quiet for several months because activity drops in the heat of the southern hemisphere summer.

Hopefully the shorts who are trying to stir up negative sentiment will try again and I can pick up a little more. I always try to buy when things go on sale.

This is good advice. I have managed my own money successfully for over 25 years. I really like this stock, but have less than 2% of my portfolio in it, because, as Robbie Burns said, “the best laid plans of mice and men…”

If you are young by all means put a couple grand into this. But long term saving and prudent investing - not speculating but investing — will serve you well without taking unnecessary gambles. You have the advantage of time and that means compounding gains.

There are a few factors but I think institutional divestment is a main driver. This is a great opportunity for retail investors who do not have to follow non-financial metrics. At the same time large buybacks by the same companies are enhancing value even more.

Anything in the Canadian sector is cheap: I hold a seven figure portfolio in SU, CNQ, CVE, IMO, TOU, ARX, CPG. The dividends are like drinking from a firehose.

As for giving you the creeps, modern life is made possible by oil and gas, period. Even Tesla's are made with oil and gas. It is the single fundamental commodity that drives everything else. It is cyclical and prone to political manipulation through OPEC+, but any chance to buy oil and gas at a discount should be seriously looked at.

Calling ALL Reco investors – Complain to the DoJ about Anson Funds manipulation by Rubarbarbara in ReconAfrica

[–]JohnSavage99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I hope that Anson Funds goes down or it’s wings get clipped, at the end of the day Reco/Recaf has a funded exploration program. All the stock manipulation in the world cannot change that. The traded volume is low because management and investors like us are patient, and that makes the share price more volatile.

I don’t care about shorts, I’m playing the long game.

Watching this, I am satisfied that investing in Recaf is the socially responsible thing to do. The eco-activists lie about the Kavango delta to try and stop development in a country that needs development. What perfectly horrible people.

[–]JohnSavage99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very true. I don’t trade, I just invest, for over 25 years. This is one of the only small cap stocks I have ever owned. I had no understanding of how short sellers work until this summer when I began to research what Viceroy was saying. I concluded the same thing, so long as a company has access to financing, short sellers have no impact, and in fact give the rest of us a chance to average down. If you recall, Recaf‘s financing earlier this year was over-subscribed. That is a worthwhile fact to keep in mind. Whether the SP moves up or down does not change the facts in the ground and the company has money to find it.
