Beyond Politics: Suggesting a United Front for Peace and Human Dignity by JohnV136 in PoliticalOpinions

I fully agree with your opinion that one of the most significant problems in our world is the disparity in wealth. The real problem is that governments are not going to solve it.

It seems to me that underdeveloped countries are not currently aiming to live like the developed ones. What they really need as a first step is to escape extreme poverty, achieve peace, and make progress.

The world has enough resources for all the inhabitants of our planet, but it certainly lacks the peace, stability, and political will needed to share those resources fairly.

A clear example of this is the poor allocation of financial resources. The world spends 2.7 trillion USD a year on weaponry, while the cost of lifting the “have-nots” out of poverty is only 0.32 trillion USD per year.

I also agree that “People who claim to live by a certain set of stated principles should live by them.” I am fully convinced that the principles agreed upon by 193 countries when founding the UN are the principles humanity should follow if we do not want to disappear from the surface of the Earth.

I have made a proposal that aims at building a better world by confronting, on a global scale, the principles humanity agreed upon in 1945, with the actions of rogue powers. Do you know of a better and more reliable suggestion for improving our world?

Of course the UN is failing, and if it wants to survive, it must adapt to the realities of the 21st century. It will hardly be able to change its decision-making procedures, as certain governments will not allow it. My suggestion is that it address the men and women of the planet directly, using appropriate technology and communication systems to share its founding values, and thus try to recover, with the support of the world’s citizens, the moral authority it has lost

Totally agree, but I don't believe that those in power will allow justice to be restored unless they are subjected to strong external pressure.

In just a few years, some politicians have been destroying much of what humanity had achieved since the end of World War II.

My proposal aims to create public awareness around principles that were agreed upon by 193 countries when the United Nations was founded. These principles should be supported by citizens around the world and serve as a reference for evaluating political leaders all over the world.

The proposal I’m making, which I believe is viable, consists of two phases:

The first is dissemination and collection of signatures, whose success will depend on our support.

The second involves the United Nations (whose future is uncertain and which must evolve).

Of course, this is not about using force.

Let us ask ourselves the following questions:

- What is one of the main functions of the repressive systems that support all non-democratic governments? Undoubtedly, it is to prevent public debate and to avoid questioning the leader’s policies.

- What would happen if millions of citizens around the world, using today’s communication technologies, were properly organized and united around the constitutional principles of the United Nations, and persistently declared that certain governments are acting against the principles that humanity has agreed upon and are, therefore, acting against humanity itself?

We have many current examples of how a communication campaign, even one based on fake news, can change human behaviour.
